(6,819 posts)I voted for your entry in the preliminaries. It evoked my mood during those times on the trail when I've come around a bend and been awestruck. Of course, I voted for my entry in the finals
My photo's nothing special, but Calliope's extraordinarily photogenic.

NOOOOOO!!! I'm just kidding....
(It was the mail-in ballots).
It was really fun to watch the lead go back and forth the last twenty four hours. Those nail-biters are the best contests.
Congratulations to Diamond Dog for a great image. I could picture myself standing right there next to you. Congratulations to Mousetoescamper for his lovely shot of Calliope. The photo was perfect for this contest. Congrats also to all who entered. We didn't get a full thirty entries this month, but every photo was outstanding.
I drove three hours to get my shot, from West L.A. to the middle of Joshua Tree National Park. The beauty of astrophotography, especially in the desert, is that we get to set up our cameras and then just sit back and admire the majesty of the heavens. If you've never had the opportunity to experience a true dark sky area you need to put it on your bucket list. This particular evening I got to admire a sight that hadn't been seen on Earth for eighty thousand years. I could not help but wonder if the creatures alive at the time even noticed it in the night sky. To sit in a vast area, under a canopy of millions of stars, is truly an experience to be cherished.
Of course, thanks to our dear friend Californiapeggy for running another excellent contest. I pictured her sitting at her computer thinking "please don't make it a tie!" LOL!
Thanks to all those who voted for my photo.

(156,781 posts)You're right about my thinking if there were a tie at the end! I did not want to face that, and thank goodness I didn't have to!
I loved your photo! I wish I could have been there, but . . . life interferes.
Congrats again!

(6,819 posts)Congratulations! Your comet photo is splendid. The scale provided by the proximity of the mountains to the comet distinguish your photo from many I've viewed where the object is much higher in the sky.
