(26,041 posts)Im beyond distressed at what I see unfolding in front of my eyes and wondering if we will survive this nightmare. How have so many forgotten the sacrifices that were made by our grandparents and their parents to make it possible to be here? So very glad to meet you, Matt, as youre my Florida neighbor. 💙

(89,299 posts)MOST thought-provoking. Thanks, Matt!
And thank you for reintroducing yourself.
Its just a shame that so many Americans would gladly spit on the beautiful and compassionate words on that plaque, these days.
And here I thought that ALL of us in this country have bloodlines from elsewhere. All of us except the tribes who were here first - unless you remember that THEIR ancestors likely migrated from the greater Asia area via the continental far north.
Pretty much everybody here is from somewhere else, in earlier eras.

Nice post.
He and I share very similar names. Bossman is cooler than mine.

(5,147 posts)when my wife and I are out and about "Are you the Bossman?".
Being married for as long as I have been, I keep my mouth shut and let her reply to that one.
As another anecdote about my name, I attended a Jesuit Catholic high school and Fr. God's (picture what you think God looks like, put him in traditional Jesuit attire and you'll get the picture) 1st words to me as a scared freshman was "Mr. Bossman, you name smacks of hubris, we'll have to look out for that".

(26,041 posts)I wish every child in the public schools in Collier and Lee counties would make it a must see on their school trip days. Actually, everyone should go as people seemed to have forgotten that horror and why so many immigrants came here during those years. I wonder if they even teach that in schools today..

(3,094 posts)I am the descendant of grandparents who escaped the pogroms in Czarist Russia at the turn of the last century. I and my family are alive today because they were brave enough to come to a new country. Now I wonder if I am brave enough to leave this country. I am very afraid for my kids and grandkids and I think it's time for us to leave.
Who would ever think this country would fall to nazis?

(2,916 posts)Forgive me but my first reaction at therestricted area/keep out sign was a laugh because it caught me off guard. But after realizing that it would be welcomed by many Americans, it was a sobering and poignant reminder of how much things have changed in this country since the end of the Obama administration.
