Ryan Walters' failure to land education secretary nomination unsurprising, critics say

An apparent campaign by Oklahoma state schools Superintendent Ryan Walters to land a spot in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration has ended with Walters not being selected for a job many believe he coveted: U.S. education secretary.

Trump announced he would nominate the former administrator of the Small Business Administration, Linda McMahon, to serve in that role. Trump said McMahon “will fight tirelessly to expand ‘choice’ to every state in America, and empower parents to make the best education decisions for their families.”

Former Republican state Rep. Mark McBride of Moore, a longtime skeptic of Walters, said he wasn’t surprised Trump didn’t choose Walters.

“I told you,” McBride responded to a question about Walters being bypassed.

Rep. Jacob Rosecrants, a Norman Democrat who successfully won re-election in a Republican-majority district while campaigning on an anti-Walters platform, previously had expressed hope Trump would pick Walters, so that Walters would no longer be in Oklahoma.

“While it’s a mild surprise that Trump overlooked somebody who tried so hard to get his attention, it’s no surprise that the incoming administration chose somebody so close to the president-elect, in McMahon, who is his transition co-chair,” Rosecrants said. “As a former public school teacher, I don’t trust anything this administration does regarding education, including this choice, but I do wonder if even Trump thought that Walters was too inept for his cabinet.”

While Walters never directly addressed the subject of his candidacy for the education secretary position, it seemed clear in the days following the election that Walters was working to gain Trump’s attention.

millions. They have a long lasting personal and business relationship going back decades. Ryan is just some yokel religious fanatic who doesn't bring anything that will enrich Trump.

* has been embedded in our culture for far too long. But for some unknown reason * has been elevated to be in our everyday lives for decades. I was repulsed by the very first time I heard his, saw his face and thought why is this weirdo being promoted as someone special.

And here we are.

I will be so glad when * meets his maker and I never have to be subjected to * again. However, I don’t think the media will ever be tired of him even after his earthly demise.
