WTH with the price of groceries? Sticker shock.

I just went went to the supermarket. Here its Stop & Shop.
Haven't been in about 8 days. I had sticker shock.

Anyone else notice that the price of groceries has shot up since
the election of that morally bankrupt greed filled hyena?

Winn Dixie is the best. Sadly it will be Aldi’s next year.

local produce isn't available in a lot of places and has to be imported from somewhere farther south, as happens every year. That always costs more. It's just worse this year - maybe from normal shortages, maybe from price gouging, maybe from anticipation of tariffs and labor shortages or some combination of those factors. We'll have to see how it shakes down, but I don't think it will get better.

I grabbed a handful of packets from the deli because I cannot (or refuse to) pay $5.69 for the smallest bottle of Hellmann's- the tiny, 3" tall picnic bottle.

I wasn't about to pay more than that. Tub of ice cream, jar of mayo, loaf of bread. Around 3.00.

Now it is just about 5.00 each and the brands aren't even top names. I do like my Hellmann's or Kraft mayo.
Even Duke's mayo.

Heck, I don't even like the top brands in ice cream like Tillamook. I love ole Turkey Hill Dutch chocolate which is 3.99 here in central Va. Other brands are much higher.
The breads have inched closer to 5.00 and I ain't gonna pay that.

HALF THEIR EMPLOYEES BEING DEPORTED.

AI ain't going to stock the shelves.

spots and fast food restaurants.

Not that I give a shit - I don't patronize either

And if I were in the market and had the $$$, I'd consider shorting the holding companies with these chain establishments

go to grocery store hasn't had loss leader items (usually I can get sliced cheese, lunch meat, and a steak/roast for $2-$4 less/#). Our other full service grocery store runs an attractive gas loyalty program ($16 of gas on $120 of purchases), and, with the 1/2 # free cheese with 1# meat, I went that direction this week. Also every 10 purchases of 1 pound is a free pound of meat so there is another 10-20% (of course the free pound is always the more expensive roast beef).

My foundational purchases of vegetables, berries, and Greek yogurt come from Aldi's, and it is always competitive or better than the other two grocery stores.

Was it eggs? If it was eggs, let's all blame Republicans.

I've been primarily shopping there for nearly 15 years. Plus they are locally owned and operated.

They don't always have everything I might be looking for, so I shop there first and only pick up a thing or two from the big grocers, but that's still rare for me.

When I was young it was called Canned Foods and my parents always shopped there. I visit Grocery outlet every week to buy vegetables and other stuff. The only reason it’s cheaper is the food is close to the expiration date. But have never gotten sick buying food there. Recently I got some really good organic muffins and they were so delicious I went back to buy more but they were sold out. I paid 2.99 for a box of 8 and they were $10 at Safeway! I also buy from Trader Joe’s.

I went to the store yesterday. Turkeys are pretty cheap.
Celery was 79c for a good sized bunch
Boxed chicken broth (I use for making gravy) 2.99 same as last year
Sweet potatoes .98 lb.
2 - 8 lb. Bags of potatoes $5

Some things are up, some are down. T-giving items are down right now.

They jack them up to make profits. By New Years there will be sales, and closeouts on some in January. Make it while they can.

times since the election, and many items I use have been on sale. Many items on very good sale on items I don't buy, but know the prices of. Between my loyalty card, digital account, coupons, markdowns, and sales, I have done okay. Yes, eggs have gone up again, but so has bird flu. Most recent purchases included: butter, 2.49/lb. raspberries, 1.49 box. large pomegranates, 1.49 each. sweet potatoes, .77/lb. 32 oz veg stock, .99.
