Democrats need to constantly hammer on how much the Trump Tariffs are costing people. Every single day from inauguration to the mid-terms. On all platforms, with easy to understand messaging and examples.
So that everyone, MAGA or not, generally uninformed or misinformed, knows exactly how his policies are negatively affecting them.
A few quick ideas:
- Require retailers and restaurants to itemize how much these tariffs add to your shopping bill. For example, Fabletics had this "Import Tax" section with an explanation for why customers were being charged more.

- Take a page out of MAGA's playbook and start putting up stickers like this in stores, gas stations, etc.
- Start tracking price increases in a spreadsheet and share that with friends, family, neighbors, social media etc.

(5,327 posts)The right has been successful in finding wedge issues and creating an alternate reality where things are much worse than they actually are.
We may need to do the same if we want to win again.

(19,229 posts)"this is the harm being done by the Trump tariffs that you jackasses all voted for" and don't take any BS from idiots who say "I didn't vote for that" by pointing to his campaign documents and statements which clearly say he would do that.
Don't put the blame on Trump the person, put the blame on every single asshole who voted for him.

(6,239 posts)because it gives them a leg up on competing with imported products. Union workers probably love tariffs.
But if inflation goes up, suddenly tariffs will become unpopular.

(5,327 posts)They will get hit with the passed on costs as well.
That's without even talking about how the economy will be wrecked, lowering demand for whatever their company makes and probably leading to layoffs.

(2,299 posts)And my answer to everyone who complains about prices will be, "What did you expect? He said that he was going to do exactly this. He said it every time he stood in front of a microphone. If you voted Republican, you voted for this. He was very clear."

(750 posts)1 - noting there is still inflation
2 - gas is not $2.00 per gallon
3 - eggs are not $2.00 a dozen - even once the bird flu is not an issue, I don't see the cost going down all that much. We buy free range eggs from a local egg producer at chain grocery store (in a town that has a lot of well to do/act like they are well to do people). The cost of those eggs is $5.00/dozen, the same as who knows what brand from what non-free range supplier at Wal-Mart. Immigrants work in egg plants also.
4 - War between Russia and Ukraine still in progress (I hope NATO steps in/Ukraine gets to join NATO).

(24,710 posts)to buy a gas range before the tariffs kicked in. Both stores told me they were ordering appliances and other high dollar items for customers saying that they too wanted to avoid tariffs. I ended up buying from Best Buy because they would guarantee that the $2800 I was spending on the range would be the end price regardless of tariffs. Lowes couldnt guarantee that. It could be that Best Buy will FAFO and have to eat the tariff but who knows. The tentative delivery date for my range is February. It is my guess that this will be a fucking shit show for retailers.

They will find out the hard way.

(24,124 posts)That could change, but right now they don't think he's serious and he's talking about leverage with those 3 countries in regards to Fentanyl.
If Wall Street thought he was doing this for real, we'd see a 5000 point drop in the DOW today.
