Blue-collar clothing brand Dickies bucks recent trend by moving from Texas to California
The company has suffered a decline in revenue

Dickies clothing brand is moving from Texas to California, marking a rare corporate switch after several companies relocated from California to the southern state.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the company will be moving from Fort Worth to Costa Mesa to share a space with its sister brand Vans.

VF Corp., the brand’s parent owner also owns North Face, Timberland and JanSport, the outlet reported.

Companies like Space X and Chevron previously chose to move their companies from California to Texas in search of lower real estate prices, better tax laws and fewer restrictions. Dickies’ move is due to impact 120 employees, the company told the outlet.

“This move allows VF to further consolidate its US real estate portfolio as part of its stated business turnaround strategy,” a spokesperson for VF told the newspaper. The move should also foster a collaboration between Vans and Dickies employees to “create an even more vibrant campus where creativity and best practice sharing can thrive through greater collaboration and connections,” they added.

The company hopes the relocation process will be completed by May.

Chief Executive of RetailWire, Dominick Miserandino, told the outlet that the matter may have more to do with real estate ownership than anything else. “Clearly, you’re making a decision like this for operational efficiency,” he said.

Because going from a median home price of $330k in Fort Worth to $1.2 million in Orange County ain't gonna be cheap.

Mix in that it's a consolidation and the company isn't doing particularly well. Not sure how many people would want to relocate to an expensive area with that kind of uncertainty.

Assuming, of course, however many are actually being given the option to relocate. The article doesn't mention if there are any accompanying lay-offs to go with this. Just that 120 employees are "impacted" which somewhat euphemistically vague.

They had a plant on I-30, that had a large zipper on it and it was partially unzipped to reveal the Dickies logo.

My dad a custom home builder wore Dickies overalls and pants his whole life.

Then a few years ago I worked at a Santa’s village and meet Santa’s wife. She worked at Dickies for over 40 years. She worked in several departments. She left when Dickies they started a DEI program. Last time I worked with her I found out just how racist she and her husband were. But I met a couple other of her coworkers and they seemed like nice people.

My hubby was also renovating old bikes and sold one to someone who worked for Dickies real nice guy. He even bought a bike for his girlfriend at the time. Last we heard he left the company and moved away.

I wonder if the Dickies Arena will keep the name or sell the name to the highest bidder!

I didn’t know they were part of the Vans company. I wish them luck.

Dickies has been downsizing for a while now.

For whatever reasons given, it is really something when an iconic Texas brand moves out of state.
I just bought a pair of Dickies carpenter pants last week.
