What gets me is the privileged now supposedly contains those of eastern and southern European decent. Wasn't all that long ago when my people didn't consider them to be fully white either. Heck, wasn't that long ago when my people didn't think Catholics should be full citizens. For the Hispanics who think they're also privileged or "in the club", no, you're most definitely not. Nor will you ever be in their club.

Conclusion: No most decidedly not!

My conclusion as a child? Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.

I remember my Mom forbidding me to ever play with a Lebanese Christian kid that came by to see if I was home when I was not.

Pffft. We became fast friends. Him and his whole lovely family. What did she know of such people? She’d never even met any.

Even a kid knows when something is ridiculous.

They can make them do anything they want.

A little more difficult with liberals. They have a tendency to be more educated and critical thought is not a foreign concept.

Having the balls to do something, or saying "it takes balls" to do something is a metaphor for having the manliness, toughness or courage to do something. It's not the durability of balls that's being alluded to (we know a dude's sack is a delicate package). It's that the balls produce testosterone, which contributes to male characteristics including strength and aggression.

What metaphor would you use?

I am tired of this, too. We need to come up with a different, nongendered, fully inclusive metaphor that includes ALL kinds of people.

As a cis woman, I do not have balls, I have never had balls, and I never want to have them. I believe that I do have many of the positive qualities people mean when they use that metaphor, but those qualities have nothing to do with what's in my pants.

I have been in the habit of just letting it go by when people use that expression, figuring that there's not much point in trying to fight it. But that doesn't mean I'm fine with it or that I don't feel sort of ... erased when people use male body parts as a metaphor for all kinds of admirable qualities that cis women, transgender people, and other kinds of people who have something other than standard issue male genitalia are just as capable of having.

Thank you, Skittles, for giving me the opportunity to express how I feel about this tired trope.

Most of the worlds lands, are probably ruled by victors of some past conflicts.

Once controlled, the setting of rules for who can live there is something that is universal.
It is not unique to this country.

We white people is all alike.

Thanks for reminding me why discussing sensitive subjects go off the rails by hyperbole. If you want to address bigots, don’t start your message with the angry sarcasm of “Dear White People”.

Say “MAGAts, may I have your attention.”

Call a spade a spade.
