We attended grade school and high school together. Dated for almost three years and then we got married.

We're some of the only folks we know that both escaped the cult and prospered within our personal relationship with ourselves and each other.

4. I can only tell you what I hear.

As I mentioned in an earlier post. On a whim, I took a seasonal job at a national retailers efulfillment center. It’s been quite the experience. The work is hard and the hours are long. I’ve never been such a minority. It’s almost unfathomable. There’s 2 lunchrooms, and by my count, each holds well over 200 people. I did a quick scan the other day and there were roughly a dozen white folks in there. Not that it really matters. The vast majority of the workers are legal immigrants from Africa, Nepal, and Latin America. The things I’ve heard and learned from them are shocking. The support Trump has among many LEGAL immigrants is mind boggling.

After the election I was working along side of an older Hispanic lady. She’s a real good (but annoying) co worker, so I was happy to be working shoulder to shoulder with her. During a lull in production she asked me if I was happy about the election, I shook my head and said no. I asked here the same question, and shockingly, she said she was very happy. I found out in subsequent conversations that she is originally from Columbia but now she is all American. Anyway, the following is her reasoning. She said, I have worked in many warehouses and many of them hire illegal immigrants, and they threaten us if we say anything. Many people like her live in constant fear. I know this is a lengthy reply, but if you wonder who would turn them in, it’s people just like her, that’s who. People that have sacrificed, followed the rules and suffered the consequences to become legal citizens. While I don’t agree with her support of Trump, I certainly respect her and those like her. And I can completely understand why they vote the way they do. I realize this is purely anecdotal, but I have a sense this is the general consensus among people like her across the country.

It is very frustrating when someone cuts in line in front of you, I get that sense of unfairness. But to keep people from line-cutting doesn’t require burning down the theater, does it? That’s what they’ve done.

I have no idea what goes through an immigrants mind. The things you mention might be a fair trade off to them. After all, those things you mention, are rights we have learned to take for granted. That doesn’t mean they share the same learned values.

have been publicly saying for some time now. If a person wants to believe what's being said is not true and ignores it, then good luck.That is their business and I hope they are ultimately right. A lot of us are quite tired of trying to save people from themselves. But military-style raids and deportation camps are not just a matter of opinion or beliefs.

As for the Holocaust, you should well know that what I'm talking about is how the Nazis started chipping away at the "others" in living in Germany; their nationality and origins, ridding the country of their pestilence, scapegoating all of societies ills on them, etc, etc, etc. Camps and ovens didn't just appear overnight. I was the slow boiling of the frog that ultimately led to them.

Will that happen in this situation in the United States? My immediate thoughts are no way, that cannot happen here.

Virtually all precedent and democratic norms have been thrown to the damn dogs in the name of these people and their "beliefs" (which are mostly just misinformation and nonsense anyhow). I'm sure a lot of them would jump at the chance to turn "illegals" in. After all, one reason they voted for him was because they liked his stance on immigrants so much.

Furthermore, I don't think it will be safe for any immigrant to take it for granted that they'll be left alone. At least not if their skin is any color other than lily white. Even those who are citizens could get caught up in a roundup and go through all kinds of hell before they get a chance to prove their citizenship. I doubt Trump's thugs will apologize when the error is discovered, either.
