News reruns isn't News.

(MSNBC rant)
Just tuned in to see if there was any news. If Lemire did any I didn't hear it. Just intros to reruns.
It's like nothing has happened in the last 2 days.
2nd and 3rd stringers would love to do fill-in. I'm sure the cheap suits at NBC don't want to have to pay them a talent fee.

...doing this for years. MSNBC will rerun Joe & Mika up to three times! CNN continues their non-news marathons... Seems like FOX "News" is the most "live" 24/7 news station.

3. This has been a complaint I've had for years.

It's almost impossible to get live programs containing news or progressive opinion on holidays or weekends. MSNBC has been better about weekend programming for a few years, but the holidays still suck. Maybe CNN is better, I don't much watch them, too much both-siderism.

2. Why bother with TV news?

It sucks.

The corporate directives to bothsiderism every issue merely confuses voters. The two sides are rarely of equal legitimacy but the MSM is so afraid of controversy that they willingly allow Republicans to blatantly lie.

You're better off finding online news services that still understand the requirements of journalism.

Radio is probably worse. NPR isn't bad as you can get some news sandwiched in between Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and Hidden Brain.

6. There are plenty of news sites you can watch or listen to

Go to YouTube or look for podcasts. There are many choices and lots of them are legitimate.

News radio has died in America. The radio business gave up on in-depth news because it couldn't support the service with advertisements. There was not enough of an audience and since all media live or die on the size of their audiences, news radio is a thing of the past. Just recently, the all-news station WCBS-AM in NYC went off the air after some 55 years as a leader in radio news because they couldn't get enough of a demographically desired audience for advertisers.

TV news suffers from the same problem, that is, it has to sell advertising time in order to stay in business. Since the mass of people don't want hard news, we get the "happy news" broadcasts and the stupid news talk shows like The Five or Morning Joe.

The grand tradition of journalism was in print. The modern version is the internet, of course.

Yet if you want the passive reception of news, you'll have to search for better outlets than you'll find in the MSM. I suggest the Guardian as a good starting point. The good news commentaries on YouTube are also exceptional.

Good luck!

9. I'm really not complaining that there is nothing to find.

I'm irked that a show that promotes itself as a news programs reruns. They're just being cheap.

13. Yeah, MSNBC is really lame

Scarborough is a loud-mouthed braggart who treats his wife embarrassingly badly in public and on air. Lemire is equally inane. Why the network thinks I'd want to watch this stupidity three times a day is beyond me!

Maddow is on only once a week.

O'Donnell, probably one the few greats in modern TV news, is on only four nights a week. Ruhle is in the same league, in my view.

Kornacki is somewhat clownish. Melber is too into rap lyrics. Reid is very good but her audience is too low to sustain in the long run. Hayes is so MOR that when he expresses his "outrage," it seems forced and somewhat insincere.

Wallace is good as a recovering Republican but she's still from inside the Beltway Bubble. Same for the very good Menendez.

Actually, it's no surprise that Comcast decided to sell off MSNBC (along with its other cable channels including the Golf Channel) since cable news is not a high profit business.

I now you'll be shocked when I write that journalism is in decline. The Founding Fathers knew that to sustain a democracy, an informed public was necessary. It's why freedom of the press is in the First Amendment. The People need to know the facts of their country in order to make informed votes for our leaders.

Today there is more disinformation than good journalism. We face an existential crisis but the majority of Americans are blissfully ignorant of the dangers.

5. Can't they have a few days off?

I was thrilled the grocery store workers had a bit of time off. I think everyone except police, fire and medical should have complete days off and if the emergency personnel have to work pay triple.

Football players have to work unfortunately because that would lead to a revolt otherwise.

8. I worked in Broadcast News for over 30 years. I got days off and I also worked a lot of holidays.

We understood that the news kept happening and it should be reported. The viewers who depended on turning on their TVs to get the news could still find it on holidays and weekends. Many times the usual anchors might be off for the holiday, but the slot was filled with anchors from other shows or reporters who chomped at the bit for a little air time.

I ate a lot of Christmas dinners with my fellow employees.
