I made a list, she tells you where she got the list at the end, now, pass it on!

(54,907 posts)I hope my years here on DU exposing corporate abuse and skulduggery lend some legitimacy to my call-out. I am absolutely not a corporate shill type, but I also do my due diligence, and this list is not something I feel is accurate and/or reliable enough to label firms with based solely upon what it says.

Pretty pointless information if we do not know.

(19,933 posts)Definitely not safe to assume this random persons video isnt just about individual contributions.
Celerity
(54,907 posts)And yes, it is individuals, not the firm itself.

(10,446 posts)It shows donations to the following Republicans:
Cathy McMorris Rodgers
Marco Rubio
Paul Ryan
Thomas MacArthur
And one Democrat: Debbie Stabenow
Those are apparently the 5 biggest recipients of their donations.
It gives no other info - no amount of donations, no names of people donating, and not even a time frame for the donation.
From their Website:
Our Data
Our research team hand curates and certifies all of our data. Search for a company or brand, and well show you what percentage the company, its affiliates and its senior management and executives collectively donate to Republicans and Democrats, what percentage comes from the company itself versus its employees, and the top five politicians donated to. Weve also given each company our proprietary Campaign Finance Reform score. Each companys CFR score is calculated on a scale of -100 to +100. The higher the score, the more likely that purchases from the company or brand will lead to meaningful campaign finance reform. You can read more about our data here and our CFR score here.
The data provided on our free app and website are for individual use only. Commercial use is strictly prohibited without Goods Unite Us prior written permission. If you would like to use our data for commercial purposes, please contact us at info@goodsuniteus.com.
and from its description on the Apple App Store:
Our team has spent thousands of hours vetting companies political donations with the tools available to us, and well continue refining our data to ensure our results are as accurate as possible. So far, weve focused on organizations spending in federal elections, and our next step will be to vet state expenditures.
I know its become very popular but I can't speak to its overall reliability.

(54,907 posts)Paul Ryan has not run since 2016, for example.
In the last 3 cycles, 2020, 2022, and 2024, the vast majority of contributions from individuals at Urban Outfitters have went to Democratic candidates.
Also, it is problematic to cast blame on entire companies in general for the actions of some of their employees.
I am sorry, but I am going to have to give a hard pass to that app that list, and that video.
Cheers,

(2,333 posts)Dick and Liz Uihlein are GOP megadonors. Many millions of dollars over the years to national and local campaigns in many states and GOP think tanks. Liz even has a political page in the ULINE catalog. Unfortuantely Amazon gets their boxes from ULINE, so if you buy something and it comes in an Amazon box, you are indirectly supporting the GOP.

(5,215 posts)I used to manage a warehouse and usually, they went straight into the recycling bin but one say I was bored and started flipping through it. I couldn't believe how bold it was.
Wiz Imp
(10,446 posts)They are absolutely insane. Turns out that the father/founder of the company was a John Bircher. and supported George Wallace for President.
But this is insane. Former employees of Uline told ProPublica the couples traditionalist politics govern the smallest details of how the company is run. For new staffers, it begins with the dress code in the employee handbook. The handbook defines tardy as one minute past an employees scheduled start time. Just four personal items are allowed on employees desks, with maximum dimensions of 5 inches by 7 inches. One former staffer at Ulines headquarters recalled a coworker who was forced to remove several drawings done by his young child. Liz would walk up and down the aisles, and if your desk looked off, youd be written up, he recalled.
Unlike at other corporate workplaces where discussing politics is tacitly discouraged, the Uihleins lean in to theirs. Employees gathered at the major Uline distribution center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, for a company party in 2019 were bemused when the entertainment hired by the company emerged on stage: a Donald Trump impersonator, wearing a red MAGA hat.

What is this weird fascination and objection conservatives apparently have with corduroy? I've seen multiple references recently to conservative groups banning corduroy. I find it bizarre.

(1,631 posts)Companies that give to politicians tend to hedge their bets and give to both parties.
Wiz Imp
(10,446 posts)those who gave to both but the overwhelming majority of contributions went to Republicans. She said she was intentionally not including those companies who gave fairly equal amounts to both parties. I have no idea how accurate her assessment is though.
soandso
(1,631 posts)I didn't bother checking who gave what to whom because it would be too time consuming. I only know that, for the most part, political contributions from companies and corporations are purely business decisions which is why so many spread the money around.

(1,631 posts)Then Celerity made a post regarding Urban Outfitters that contradicted it. Not sure what's correct. The lady mentioned Chevy, Cadillac and GMC - all General Motors. I find it hard to believe any or all haven't also donated to Democrats.
