Joe Walsh (on MSNBC just now), you are wrong, wrong, wrong in your take on Hunter Biden's pardon

It won't embolden Trump. Trump has shown repeatedly that he will do whatever he damn pleases. Joe Biden's action is irrelevant.

Joe Biden didn't pardon him simply because he loves his son. He pardoned him because it clearly was a targeted prosecution by Republicans who wanted to discredit and harass Hunter's father, and because Hunter has paid his dues.

A pardon is entirely appropriate and just.

It went way beyond a legitimate prosecution for a crime of possessing a gun while abusing drugs. Hunter did commit that crime, but it was one that is almost never prosecuted when there's no underlying crime, as in where the gun is used. If it had been a routine prosecution without a political motive a pardon might not have been appropriate, but Hunter was targeted for the express purpose of harming Joe politically. I think Joe changed his mind when he saw what Trump's DoJ was going to turn into - little but a mechanism for retribution on Trump's behalf - and Trump clearly wanted very much to punish Joe for the 2020 election and intended to do so. Hunter was about to be sentenced for this "crime," but investigations almost certainly would continue under Patel's FBI and Bondi's prosecutors regarding Burisma and who knows what other matters, and it would never end until Hunter broke. Joe must have realized that, and concluded that a pardon was necessary to save Hunter's sobriety if not his life. These are vicious people and they wouldn't have stopped.

Does not matter what Biden does.

Trump is driven by immediate impulses.

Trump does not have any kind of moral code that he lives by.

This outrage that MAGA shows will not be there if Trump tries to pardon himself.

I wish Biden would pardon everyone on Trump's enemy list.

Not because they did anything wrong; far from it; so that it would set back his revenge presidency.

personal safety of Hunter if he were in prison while Donald Crumb and his people are in control and how they could "manufacture" incidents of misconduct in prison in order to bring additional charges and keep him behind bars for years and years. Likewise I do not put it past these people to arrange serious physical harm to Hunter. That would be their "payback" to Joe. Protective placement means nothing. The substance is clear enough. This was a weaponized prosecution, and for a person whose crimes were a drug habit and not checking the right box on a gun permit for a weapon he never used, the consequences have already been extreme. Any reasonable person would say that Hunter has more than paid the price for the things he did. And there is no evidence that Joe interfered with ANY of that, as extreme and unprecedented as it was.

Now, we were looking at the prospects of Trump with his cabinet of crazies adding 4 more years of hell and enormous expense to the punishment that has already been dealt. As a practical matter, this is a no-brainer. Take that away from Trump.

As far as optics go, that is just a Beltway thing. I don't believe anybody else cases. It is not like Joe is letting a mass murderer, or even serial sexual offender, loose on the public. I hope Biden's end-of-term actions don't stop here. Let's get the full Epstein file put into the public domain, as well as the unredacted Mueller report, and Jack Smith's complete findings.
