are we just going to let msnbc die?

I have trump anxiety and I haven't been able to watch any of my favorite msnbc shows for longer than 10 minutes a pop, but I'm worried that our favorite shows will end up canceled... or worse... and then what will we have at that point?

Is it time for those of us who can stomach the news to resume watching so we can at least have a presence in the political talk show space?

Or is the plan to rely on youtube influencers going forward?

Reading, for example. There are MANY free-to-read places where you can get excellent long form reporting and analysis. The Guardian. ProPublica.org. The many excellent thinkers/writers on Substack. I daresay you'll find reading the news a far more rewarding experience than (a) having to consume news on a schedule and topic decided by someone else, and (2) having the "analysis" shoveled passively into your brain.

It's not really about me. How are we going to win elections going forward if we (Democrats) don't have a strong media presence anywhere on TV? I'm already good to go with or without MSNBC--but I worry that our only shot at persuading cable TV viewers might be lost.

Tue Dec 3, 2024, 02:01 AM
Dec 2024

Step back a moment and consider: Broadcast TV news is dying because younger people have left/are leaving it in droves. The networks did nothing to address the needs of younger demographics, and the younger people in turn -- as well as a huge number of us older folks -- find nothing of value there. Other outlets are filling the void. It's not bad or wrong; it's just a cultural shift. I mean, a significant percentage of young people have never even had cable. How would they have watched MSNBC even it it had appealed to them? It's the same kind of disruptive change as when cable won out over the major broadcast networks and when streaming music services displaced radio stations, etc.

There’s only a few shows I watch, and not regularly.

For the most part, the network is out of touch with the interests of viewers under 50.

As good as some of the anchors are, MSNBC is not the media saviour many hoped it would be.

An effective progressive media ecosystem has yet to be created, and I’m not sure MSNBC would fit in one.

The future of progressive media is found in the likes of people like Medhi Hasan, Ali Velshi, and Hasan Piker (check him out!), as well as the podcaster known as Politicsgirl, among other women in non-traditional media.

MSNBC "appeared" to be Democracy friendly, but, unlike the entire Reich-wing noise machine, they spent a ton of time trying to be "fair".

They "effing" created the Donnie Dipshit monster.

Maybe a network that is not afraid to call a rapist a "rapist", repeatedly, and without presenting the other side of rape will succeed.

There are at least 74 million Americans clamoring for it.

Try listening to the radio in your car. See if you can find anything but Reich-wing claptrap.
