What happened this morning is a horrible tragedy. That goes without saying.
but some one people. Those of you talking about crazy gun nuts are sounding crazy yourself!!!
do you think the person who did this is right in their mind? I doubt it. This is not some sane law abiding citizen. There is obviously something wrong with this person.
Lets just ban guns all together! great idea. let the criminals run around with gun but no one else. yeah sounds great.

(3,978 posts)from committing these tragedies is a long term problem that must be tackled.
In the short term, we have a real gun crisis...not a manufactured crisis like the Fiscal cliff.

(55,334 posts)That's a damned misleading question. Such a shooter as today's is obviously making irrational, perverted, unjustifiable choices. That's never going to be the test of sanity, or no one would ever get convicted of crimes. The question is, did the shooter have the capacity to know that this was wrong. If he snuck in, if he planned it in advance and used some kind of surreptition to get to his targets, if he planned out how to get to his mom's room and evade capter until he did so, if he took the time to hide his preparations in advance of his horrible crime... then yes, he certainly does have a mind capable of figuring out this was wrong. Legally, yes, this "sick" person was probably sane.

(3,871 posts)sellers along with the NRA. They are a terrorist group and those with guns would have 10 days to turn their guns in until such time as they are mature enough to own them. I'm not kidding. Second amendment was written in a different time when guns were for real protection. Now, it's just pathetic.

(36,437 posts)We need far more restrictive gun control laws to prevent paranoid schizophrenics from killin g large numbers of people with guns. By your own logic, this is the case. By your own excuse - that this guy is not in his right mind - this is true. If we have every three months ort less some paranoid schizophrenic killing multiple people with firearms, then we must regulate the availability of firearms much more stringently. End of story.

(10,201 posts)There actually are laws and funding currently in place. Compliance by the individual states is a huge problem.
If you look at the VT shooting, the shooter was ineligible to purchase, however his mental health records were not submitted into the background check system. It took all of those innocent lives for that state to start submitting records. Some states however still have not submitted records into the system at all. This needs to be fixed. Period.

Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: Very torn here. I pretty much agree with Melinda, but it is rude. And I guess standards should be applied all the time.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: He is a fucking troll. I'm not going to vote to hide the truth.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Leave it alone. Posters need to be able to speak their minds, and to call out other posters who are clearly trying to inflame the DU community by posting (repeatedly) incoherent pro-guns-everywhere-type threads. Inappropriate and insensitive OP.

Gun nuts can't even wait until the babies bodies have been removed from the school before they start this crap. Heartless monsters, every last one of them.
*On edit... thanks to those on the jury who agreed with me, and no hard feelings toward those who didn't. And with that, I am outta this thread cause I am not bumping this troll spam any longer

(34,845 posts)But why you would not understand that people react this way in the face of a horrible tragedy means, to me, you have little capacity for empathy.
Why would you act surprised by this? It's human nature. What you need to do is go back into your quiet corner while people grieve. Show some respect. If you don't have anything to say that will help people grieve, then you should shut up.

Sorry if that does not solve 200+ years of gun ownership in this country overnight. The idea is that 100 years from now things will be better, not worse.
Nothing will get better in the first 100 days and limiting your argument to that type of time frame just shows how wrong you are.

(154,021 posts)Show guns were a luxury good and not widely owned. Hell, they were a status symbol. Hell, people also tended to own a shotgun, more than a riffle and pistols were rare.
The last fifty they became very cheap, and ammo as well.

Oh and the gun show loopholes needs to go and the AWB needs to come back.
