... under the present circumstances, it's likely the Ultra-Rich will get their taxes cut, and pubic schools may be lucky to get a sale offer on Trump Bibles. Free lunch will still be available for the needy, but only in the hungry kid can prove they are in the US legally. The war on public education will continue.

It’s already begun. There’s no north south divide. It’s between rich and poor. And the rich always win. Especially when they own the media and defund education. It’ll take generations to rectify. If it’s ever rectified. Maybe a world war to unite a nation. Even then, authoritarians have their man to destroy a once powerful nation. Without firing a bullet.

…that they too can become wealthy; rich and powerful as well!

The sooner they realize that they are just fodder in the fools errand; the better off collectively we all become.

... from kindergarten through university should must be fully funded and fully free. We own each generation a chance at the best, most useful and most appropriate education.

This should continue to the students' desired levels or the limit of the students' abilities. Too many fine minds have been wasted by limiting their education due to financial, cultural or social reasons.

In a similar but opposite case, too many undeserving people have received degrees simply because of money, social standing or family ties.

Now, if someone desires to go to a private school of any type and are able to go they may go but they should also pay the fees or be given full scholarships by the institutes.

I've been a teacher for over 45 years and I've always been on the side of the students as much as is possible. It is their lives and futures.

I taught in the public education system for 44 years and never made 70 K per year. My wife, who worked in private industry, and I were able to retire at age 65 after years of frugal living. Teachers deserve more!

Of course, there are variations based on location. A public school teacher in California is making more than a teacher in West Virginia.

Factoring in inflation and cost of living, teachers are making a little less than they did ten years ago.

Every teacher in Oklahoma has to have at least 3 jobs to make ends meet. A friend of mine wasted 10 years there as a teacher before returning to WA.

They say that federal funding will bring "standards" they don't like.

But inequality is their goal.
