(18,402 posts)There is minimally going to be a reinstatement of the assault weapons ban. There is simply no logical argument against it. This was the last straw: 20 children from ages 5 to 10, and their teachers. Millions upon millions of Americans, plus the entire law-enforcement community, support such a ban.
We can't leave this on the shoulders of the president alone, even though he has promised to commit himself to new legislation. We, as citizens, have to make our voices heard as loudly if not louder than the smaller number of bullies that call themselves the NRA. We need ORGANIZATION. We need our own lobbyists in Congress. Our power in numbers will prevail this time. I'll kick in money to any organization that comes forward with the skills and moxie to lead the fight.

(10,164 posts)Oh, there might be a (temporary) reinstatement of the ban on "assault weapons," but that's about it...and just like last time, it would be circumvented with absurd ease. Beyond that? I agree with the OP. It's just not in the cards...

I believe this Nation has had enough.
Time for Obama to embrace the party platform and what he said in the debates.
