NSBC appears to refer to North Bristol Sportsman's Club, a Wisconsin-based shooting range. Newsweek reached out to the club for comment via email outside of normal working hours.

The X, formerly Twitter, user who posted the manifesto on their account said they had received it from Rupnow's boyfriend. Newsweek has contacted the user for comment via direct message.
The author identified themselves as Samantha Rupnow, according to screenshots posted on X. Police have said Rupnow went by that name.
In the manifesto, called "War Against Humanity," the author writes that they have "grown to hate people, and society" and calls their parents "scum."
The author also writes that they acquired weapons "by lies and manipulation, and my father's stupidity" and describes wanting to die by suicide, but feeling like carrying out a shooting was "better for evolution rather than just one stupid boring suicide."

(5,535 posts)It would seem that the outcome of possibly her father abusing her would be emotional, and not be able to be discerned physically on an autopsy. I wonder if they would even bother to look for those things too, especially in a small town like Madison, Wisconsin

(1,368 posts)I'm thinking more along the lines of drugs or mental disease or something like that.
If she had been abused I would think she'd write about it knowing she was going to die.

(20,676 posts)most, if not all, of the abuse was emotional. Teenagers are extremely susceptible to emotional abuse, both by their peers, and their parents. After reading the so-called "manifesto" I see a very sad, emotionally abused and neglected young girl. It brought tears to my eyes reading it.
It appears she was getting some sort of therapy, but for how long or to what degree, isn't known.
Another young person who has fallen through the cracks and sees nothing but gloom and doom in their future. There's far, far too many of them in our present society. It breaks my heart. 😢

(20,676 posts)in her "goodbye" post on "X," but that doesn't mean there wasn't. Her torment seems to come mostly from emotional abuse, or maybe a complete lack of parental involvement. She was a very unhappy girl. That much is certain. 😢

(14,465 posts)Often that kind of talk from a 15 year old is a symptom of depression. I don't agree at all with daddy buying a gun and taking her shooting, but it sounds like an attempt, misguided though it was, at some daddy-daughter time to "pull her out of it". Therapy would have been a better option, but probably not an option in his mind. It's also possible she was a sociopath, although I don't want to throw words like that around lightly. I'll stick with depression for now.

(81,765 posts)I am a retired mental heath provided who practiced in a state with Duty To Warn and Protect.
For depressed patients with no suicide ideation or history, a talk about the increased lethality for suicide with guns in the home and a recommendation that guns be removed as a precaution.
For an adult with depression, suicidal thoughts or history, a direct request that guns be removed from the home.
A call made to next of kin with my concerns and documented.
For a child with depression, angry, thoughts of suicide, homicide and guns in the home, parents are called immediately to come to the office. It is made clear guns must be removed from home immediately.
Recommendation that child be hospitalized inpatient psych.
If there are direct threats to specific potential victims they are notified.
If there is no proof of guns being removed a call to children services and or police.

(9,017 posts)Those are great for many but not so great for teens and many 20 somethings. Sometimes depression can also depress the impulse to take action. For the younger set, lessening the depression with meds lifts their energy level enough that they decide to take action. Sadly, that does not always end well.
Had a psychologist pal who lost a patient to suicide after the psychologist put the young man on anti-depressants. My pal was devastated to the point that our circle of friends kept one of us with him for several weeks.

One isn't going solve school shootings if we have to keep gun laws lax in order to enable the shootings of CEOs

As I said, you have completely missed the point.

I denounce it.

However, if you support execution without trial under certain circumstances, that is your right.

(14,465 posts)I think it shows understanding and the kind of compassion some of you seem to be a bit lacking. It also demonstrates one reason I loved the people of the church there, even though I ultimately disagreed with some of the theology
Smith said members of the school community believed that the shooter was new to the private school this year.
You feel compassion for the parent who says, Maybe this will help my child, Smith told the [Capital] Times. I cant even imagine what theyre feeling.

To anyone reading this who is in the same boat: Do not do this! You might think they can't access your guns, but they can. They know your passwords, they know where the key is. They know your hiding spots.
