A Republican Congresswoman who has been “missing” for the past six months has finally been found.

Rep. Kay Granger, 81, has served as the representative for Texas’s 12th Congressional District since 1997.

However, she suddenly disappeared from the public eye around July this year, when she cast her final vote against an amendment to reduce the salary of Deputy Assistant Administrator for Pesticide Programs to $1.

A curious reporter at the local Dallas Express newspaper did some digging on Granger’s whereabouts and has finally been able to give her constituents some answers.

The reporter, Carlos Turcios, began by contacting her offices, from which they went directly to voicemail.

“I am sorry we are unable to answer your phone right now,” Granger said. “We are really glad you called us.

Longtime Fort Worth congresswoman Kay Granger will not run for re-election.

“Today I am announcing that I will not seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives in 2024. Serving my community has been the greatest honor, and I have always fought to improve the lives of my constituents," Granger announced in a press release on her website.

"As I announce my decision to not seek re-election, I am encouraged by the next generation of leaders in my district. It’s time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people."

Since July, there have been 182 votes and she's only cast 28. My guess is that most those votes were in the early session (around July) as she cast zero votes (out of 62) in the November/December sessions.

Kay Granger announced in October 2023 that she was retiring. Craig Goldman ran to replace her and won. He will be representing TX 12th in the upcoming 119th Congress.

31. I am mystified seeing this story creep from fringe to less fringe to mainstream today

Yesterday, when I saw the story, I googled to see if better sources had it. One hit that came up was this House PR article. I kept thinking maybe I missed something or that the date was earlier. I then reread making sure it was written as if she was there. At this point, it is possible she is suffering from memory loss/dementia and her staff or family insured she made it to this ceremony.

I think she still was chair, which is very strange that she was not replaced in leadership. Even if she were just a backbencher her absence should have been questioned especially as the speaker had bills where he needed every vote he could get.

Something is very fishy here. I wonder if it is a trap for MSM if untrue. Saying that they trusted Gateway and other RW sites, the daily mail, and the daily beast are not good reasons for not investigating what should be a jaw dropping story.

Brandon said his mother is living at Tradition Senior Living in Fort Worth, but she is not in a memory care facility, as some media reports have stated. He said that while the facility has a memory care community on the same property, Rep. Granger resides in the independent living facility.

On its website, Tradition Senior Living says it offers “resort-style living with ultra-inclusive services” on “approximately six acres along the Trinity River with miles of walking trails.” Brandon said she made the move because she wanted to be in a more active community of other older people.

“There’s nothing wrong with someone wanting to live in a community with other folks their age,” he said. “She’s in a building with a lot of other folks her age that are super active that she really loves. She has exercise classes, she gets to be around people all the time, it’s wonderful for her for this point in life.”

Her son's description is similar to many high end independent living places. It sounds like a nice place.

I hope there will be answers about both her DC and district offices. It sounds like the district one closed at the end of November. It sounds like constituent services may have stopped then. If the DC office was not active, you would think other Representatives would know, especially those in nearby offices.

I never expected to see Gateway Pundit, a site described by Wikipedia as "a far-right fake news website", founded and run by Jim Hoft, long notorious as "the dumbest man on the Internet", cited as a source on DU.

For all I know, its story this time may be accurate, but that would be an extreme rarity.

I don't think this place should be giving it clicks, especially when it seems there are plenty of other sources for this story.

I'd seriously question using Gateway Pundit as a source for anything. It's been notorious since 2004 for being pretty much the worst wingnut disinformation site in the USA, if not the world.

The Gateway Pundit is known as a source of viral falsehoods and hoaxes. It has been described by the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology as one of the websites that "primarily propagate fake news", by Newsweek as a fake news website, and by CNN as a website "prone to peddling conspiracy theories".

Newhagen observed that "the most aggressive fake news sites and associated YouTube channels, such as InfoWars, The Gateway Pundit, and The Daily Stormer, are routinely sued by victims of these published reports for libel and defamation." We already actioned the majority of pages shared from this report back in 2020 or early 2021 and similarly stopped serving ads on the site's homepage last year. We will continue to take appropriate action if new content is uploaded that violates our policies."

In September 2021, Google demonetized the entire site. A Google spokesman said "We gave the Gateway Pundit ample notice to address persistent policy violations before we took action. We will not serve Google ads on the site until they can comply with our guidelines." The decision took place a few days ahead of the airing of a French documentary in which a Google representative was confronted with printouts of ads on the site.

Plenty more at the link about its long record of spreading concocted stories about Democrats, Hillary Clinton etc. At the very least, I don't think DU should be sending traffic its way.
