We even had an arctic blast in Arizona last winter and it remains vivid in my memory how slowly those days passed. And we had it easy compared to the folks up north; even so it was godawful.

You and the other Montana and northern tier DU'ers. Please stay warm and safe.

BTW, I regret not getting a pic of the two of us. I think of you often and the lovely brekkie we had.

They have pretty much taken me off the "Fly Driver" list in favor of guys that are non-union. Which totally sucks, frankly. I enjoyed the travel and seeing areas I hadn't previously.

They are hiring out west, but I don't want to move!

I hope you're well and safe. Happy New Year!

Some models show significant departures from normal as far south as Texas. Remember what happened the last time it got really cold down there.

For here, it's just back to winter. It's been a bit colder than normal already, despite Monday and Tuesday's crazy warm. Woke up Dec. 23 to -11.

My dad bought one of those large pop-up style campers and we went all over in it, but seemed to get out to the Maryland panhandle once a year or so back in the late 60's, early 70's.

Western Maryland has some hidden gems.

Everybody wants a "White Christmas" until they have to deal with the snow. It's January, so if you live in the northern 1/2 of the US, you expect cold and snow. Have had it pretty good most of the last several winters, due for a doozy, I suspect.

….. drip edges, flashing on our roofs, and trucks that plow snow along with spreading ice
melt products. I love the runs on the grocery stores too. You would think that we are all
living up in the mountains and we need to stock up with flour, coffee, fat back, meat, potatoes,
gun powder, and bullets.

Btw as a kid in the snow belt in N.W. PA the drifts were 5’ + and the school was that way.
We all wore boots and winter gear which made nice puddles in the coat room and we had
all had other shoes to wear during the day too. Btw part 2 we no longer get winters like we
used to have too. And don’t get me started about the naming of snow storms too.

To going out in that frigid weather every day. I especially feel bad for my son because he has to work outside in it all day long. He has a heated vest and they pass out hand warmers but it doesn’t do a lot to stave off the cold when it’s single digits. Send some warm thoughts his way!!

Extended hard freeze is really important for insect, fungus and animal control. Our winters in Minnesota have not been cold enough for several years now, and the damage to our cold ecosystem is beginning to show.

From a personal standpoint, warm winters are more comfortable and heat is cheaper, but in the larger picture, a normal, cold winter is good news.

Besides, it's not meant to be a weather report. It's a news story about how the weather might become unusual in the near future.

Check your local weather.
