Another appeaser in our midst

Let’s Try Something Different in How We Deal With Trump
Tom Suozzi

President-elect Donald Trump and the Republicans have managed to sell themselves as the party of change. It worked: They will soon control the presidency, Congress and, in essence, the Supreme Court. But to change and fix America requires both parties to work together. As a Democratic member of Congress, I know my party will be tempted to hold fast against Mr. Trump at every turn: uniting against his bills, blocking his nominees and grinding the machinery of the House and the Senate to a halt.

That would be a mistake. Only by working together to find compromise on parts of Mr. Trump’s agenda can we make progress for Americans who are clearly demanding change in the economy, immigration, crime and other top issues.

Nothing that the republicans will try to do has America's best interest at heart.

Dems must hold fast in resistance to any and all of the damage the rightwingers are intent on creating.

First they’re all liars, so even if one were inclined to favor their concepts the likelihood of those being their ultimate goals a slim. Their true goals are power, domination, and greed. I can understand that some of these younger people may not have read ancient history about people like Chamberlain or Gingrich, but for pity’s sake they have scores of current examples of the backstabbing, double-talking, worthless word of the GOP to show them who they’re dealing with.

This is why we keep getting our asses handed to us.

Sounds like he wants to help our domestic enemy. Failure to stand against fascism is a failure of the oath of office, IMO. I suggest phone calls and emails to our elected representatives letting them know that the appeasement of fascist isn't sitting well with us voters. maybe we should vote out appeasers the next time we can. I want to see a resistance party.

Compromise at the halfway point. I remember a series of cartoons when the Democrats compromise at 50% between left and right. Then the Republicans back up and the Democrats compromise at 75%, the new halfway point. Then 87.5%. Then 94%. Then 97%, and so forth.

What we need is the war machine that Senator Whitehouse suggested to oppose what we know is going to be ugly and cruel. All our reps need to be on the same page, same messaging, same strategy.

The Project 2025 people referred to what's coming as a second American Revolution. They've told us repeatedly who and what they are. We need to take them at their word.

Bending the knee is NOT an option.

23. It's ALWAYS the Dems who are supposed to "reach out"
Wed Jan 1, 2025, 03:58 PM
Jan 2025

"find common ground"
"let bygones be bygones"
"swallow their pride"
"be the bigger man"
"extend the olive branch"
"do what's best for the country"

And it's always our inherent sense of fair play and reconciliation and coming together and altruism and the greater good that the GOP has MERCILESSLY EXPLOITED FOR 20+ GODDAMNED YEARS! I really wish we'd stop falling for this shit every single time...

I used to subscribe to that old bullshit "Batman" theory of not using evil to fight evil, but clearly what we've been doing so far isn't working. Ironically when I was on Twitter it was almost always the so-called "Never-Trump Republicans" I used to follow interjecting with "Oh, but the Dems can't do THAT! They'd be no better than Trump and his minions if they used such ruthlessly cynical tactics!" While of course giving the Trumpers a 100% pass for their behavior because it's their nature and it's expected of them (I'm looking in your fucking direction Tom Nichols and John Schindler, among others)...

The bottom line is if we're not being as calculating and ruthless as our enemies, we'll continue to lose ground to them on every front of this war.

His son was in my Scout troop and I got to know Tom and his family then. He has always been a centrist Democrat who succeeded in local politics in a district that swings gently back and forth in the middle.

Over the years, I’ve felt he has let his ego and ambition cloud his better judgment. For example, he twice primary challenged sitting Democratic governors only to get his ass kicked. I was heartened when he recaptured his Congressional seat but his cow-towing to Republicans is repugnant.

This article he wrote is naive at best.
