Same concept as Airbnb, just for vehicles, not properties.

(26,008 posts)could turn out to be an accident. Pressurized gas containers sometimes do explode.

They know it was rented in Colorado. It was rented via an app and not a car rental. Peer-to-peer rental. So, I wonder if you can not give someone your real name when you rent from an app?

So, obviously they could and probably have looked for who the car is registered to in CO.

(26,008 posts)is it possible that the sun bearing down on the car raised the heat in the storage area causing the pressurized gas container to explode? Even on cool days, the steady heat of the sun can cause enclosed spaces to get hot.
I have a can of hair spray, for example, which says in the warning section, among other things, "Contents under pressure. Do not store at temperatures above 120°."
Regarding identification of the person in the car, wouldn't the paper trail from the rental give a clue? Not a definitive ID, but a starting point.

(551 posts)So I have to say it was no where hot enought for that.
wnylib
(26,008 posts)But, even at a cool 60° the enclosed interior of a car or its storage area can get hot if the sun is steadily on it.
Or, perhaps more likely than overheating, the pressurized canister failed for some other reason. It happens. There is a post upthread with a video news report on a car in NY that exploded into flames because pressurized gas containers in it failed.
