FBI releases new video of suspect planting pipe bombs near DNC, RNC offices on eve of Capitol riot

WASHINGTON — A harrowing chapter in American history remains shrouded in mystery: Who planted pipe bombs outside offices of the Democratic and Republican national committees in Washington on the eve of the attack on the Capitol?

Hoping to generate new tips from the public, the FBI is releasing more information about its pipe bomb investigation, including an estimate that the unidentified suspect is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall. The bureau also is posting previously unreleased video of the suspect placing one of the bombs.

A host of basic questions remains unanswered four years later. For starters, investigators haven’t determined if the suspect is a man or a woman. Nor have they established a clear link between the pipe bombs and the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol by a mob of Donald Trump’s supporters.

The FBI “can’t work on assumptions,” said David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the bureau’s Washington field office.

We're they intended for proclaiming martial law if the insurrection had been successful? If Trump was declared the winner of the election, one way to stop or prevent massive protests would have been to have a couple of big explosions at political sites. Then declare martial law.

15. There had been credible, if limited reporting that there were conflicts within FBI as to the emphasis

to be placed on investigating this (couched, I suppose on the failure of the devices). But between the lines, it was pretty clear that some obstruction of these investigations had occurred and was ongoing--for whatever reason.

We know there are Trump supporters within the FBI. At least one reporter carefully touched on that...And in the comments, I can recall some very articulate suggestions that high-profile individuals--perhaps even staff of elected officials--might be receiving protection, just as they were in the Jan 6 "financing" investigations.

It looks like in the video, the suspect sits down to look at their phone? I wonder if the FBI would also consider looking into triangulating some info from cell phone towers in the area? Do you think I should submit a tip or they would have already thought of this?
