Time for Democrats to Get Out of the Bipartisanship Business

One of the many commitments that the incoming Trump administration made on the campaign trail this past year was a promise to find new ways to weaponize the federal government against the GOP’s opponents. But if Republicans get their way, we won’t have to wait until Inauguration Day for Trump to earn broad new powers to crush his enemies. Worming its way through the legislature at the moment is H.R. 9495, a bill that would give the executive branch the power to unilaterally declare any nonprofit organization in America to be a terrorist organization. Outfits so deemed would be stripped of their tax-exempt status and subject to what amounts to a financial death penalty, as banks would no longer be permitted to service them. What’s more, these organizations would have no legal recourse to fight back.

The article then states, fight the oligarchs all the time. Never help them, even if good for the country. I'm with this. It's about time for MAGA to find out.

14. I am glad this article had no influence on the previous Congress when bipartisanship was key

to passing H.R. 82, which repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset. It took years to get the entire Congress to act, and, when it did, it easily passed. President Biden is going to sign the bill into law on Monday.

The process to passage was bipartisan--the way it is SUPPOSED to be done. That is the way it USED to be done. I am old enough to remember how it USED to be before the far right started to destroy the GOP beginning with Reagan.

Trump doesn't have shit coming into office. Both Houses of Congress are practically evenly divided by party. Congress isn't going to get much done, and Trump has his share of GOP enemies there.

In the last Congress 5 or 6 Republicans signing on to a piece of legislation in the House or in the Senate would be enough to get the Bipartisanship seal of approval. In the coming year the same number of Dinos in the House joining to approve any atrocious piece of legislation will constitute bipartisanship and will get David Brooks cheering.
