Woods denies climate change and says the real problem is not filling the reservoirs. (Not mentioning, of course, that filling the reservoirs is impossible in a drought). But, if there were an attempt at rationing water earlier to fill the reservoirs, Woods would be the first one in front of every camera he could find waaaaaaing about how he can’t water his rotten tomatoes.

Governor Newsom is a very intelligent, proactive Governor. It seems like every year, we’re hearing about these fires. They’re talking about winds in excess of 90 MPH. Why are homes in this area anyhow? Aren’t the homes at the greatest risk of fire?

James Woods is wealthy and will be able to absorb the financial loss. Others, maybe not so much.

is my current understanding. Are the forests being properly managed? Is there an excess of brush that could have been cleared out as a matter of routine removal of dense underbrush that is prone to fire? It seems like CA has had, by far, the worst of it, fire-wise, the past decade or so. There has to be a reason.

In 2022, analysis conducted by researchers with the University of Washington's Center for an Informed Public and the Krebs Stamos Group found Woods was the top purveyor of election misinformation on Twitter during the late months of 2020.[116][117] That same year, Woods announced his intentions to sue the Democratic National Committee following Elon Musk's release of the Twitter Files. Journalist Matt Taibbi reported that the Democratic National Committee requested a tweet made by Woods, related to Hunter Biden, be removed from Twitter.[118][119] Critics of Woods defended Twitter's decision by pointing out that he posted images of Hunter Biden's genitals to his account."

night complaining that the hydrants had no water. I heard him on the NBC affiliate. The anchor did ask where he got the information. He said the firefighters were all talking about it. Sure. I’d seen plenty of q and a’s with fire crew leaders throughout the day. Never heard a word from them. Caruso complained that Bass was out of the city and returned last night. He felt she shouldn’t have left because winds had been forecast. Republicans love to blame Democrats for things like winds and droughts, but deny and refuse to mitigate climate change. God knows the LA Times likely will agree with Caruso.

I changed the channel, angered that the station, otherwise covering the catastrophe well, gave the bitter developer a mouthpiece. I complained on Bluesky and discovered he’d also been on Fox and another station doing the same thing. He used the loss of his daughter’s house in the Palisades to get on the news and then campaigned. In the midst of catastrophe! What an egomaniac! I’m surprised he’s not a Trump cabinet appointee.

Woods and other MAGAts like him on X are pushing lies about "empty reservoirs" as the reason the fire got out of control, instead the truth: the unprecedented 100 mph hurricane-force winds LA is experiencing (due to global warming). The reservoirs weren't empty. They were FULL. It's just the fires have been so historically massive that the water has been getting used up faster than we can replenish it. Plus, as houses burn up, it leaves broken pipes pouring water out, which reduces overall water pressure to the fire hydrants in the area.

The lies got so bad our Fire Chief had to address it to correct the hateful misinformation:

He said something ugly on x, which pretty much most of DU claims to ignore, so it’s then great to be glad he lost his home.

You just KNOW the right is going to be all over this fire. trump has already called names. The right will make claims about California breaking off and floating away for good. They’ve said it for years. You’ve stooped to their level. When they go low, we stoop right down to join them.

California is a deep blue state. The areas that are burning are deep blue areas. That fire burning down a right winger’s home had to first burn down a dozen or more progressive’s homes. Then the same fire, after burning down the right winger’s home went on to burn down dozens more progressive’s homes. But as long as it got his, who cares about the dozens it burned down before and after. Time to celebrate! A right winger’s house burned down! Yay! Ah, who cares about the dozens of others. We got one!

It is an ugly look. Period.

Pathetic that the Chief, with all that is going on, has to take time to address these lies. Fuck James Woods. Fuck MAGAts.

96. The fire chief is worried about what's posted on X????????

That is so seriously messed up, I can’t even believe it. Homes are burning down. People are dying. But the fire chief is worried about what’s being posted on X?

There are at least 3 other threads here on DU where family or friends have lost their homes.

You can argue about the cause of the fire later. Those Santa Ana winds are ferocious. I really hope Governor Newsom can do something about them.

The focus and glee we’re all seeing here over one trump fan’s home being burned down is a horrible look. If Hunter Biden loses his home, you know the trump gang will celebrate. That fact that this thread is celebrating the loss of James Wood’s home, even though you claim to be celebrating hypocrisy, is ugly. It’s just ugly.

That is how dangerous these lies are.

Ugly is using this tragedy TO MAKE SHIT UP to further a DANGEROUS right wing narrative that could get fire fighters, city workers or the mayor killed. That is what James Woods is doing. How about you be mad at James Woods instead of being mad at DUers who are mad at James Woods?

Good fucking grief.

Or any other trump fan. But you and others obviously do. Who gives a crap what they say? Why do you care what they say? Most here claimed to have left X and FB. Obviously that’s not the case.

California is a deep blue state. Progressives all over Southern California are watching their homes burn to the ground. Is the focus on them? Oh no. It must be be focused on the same people most here claim to not care about, who are posting on apps they claim to have deleted.

To be celebrating anyone’s tragedy is a horrible, horrible look. Trump and his gang will use threads like these to their advantage. And everyone celebrating will have nobody to blame but themselves.

I’m done with this thread. It’s ugly. The reactions to such a tragedy are sickening. Keep focusing on trump and his gang.

California has as many registered Republicans (5 million) as Florida. And their lies could get people killed during this firestorm.

Ignoring these dangerous people and their lies hasn't worked out very well for us. They won the propaganda war and thus the White House.

Just saw James Wood crying on TV. You know I could even have sympathy even for him except that I know exactly what he would be saying if it was a Democrat’s house that was burning he wouldn’t give a damn, and he’s blaming this all on Gavin Newsom, which is a crock.

Nobody is "celebrating" that James Woods lost his home. They're relishing the irony of a climate denier feeling climate change first hand. And rightfully expressing anger at his HARMFUL lies.

Now are the rest of the GQP psychos denying climate change start singing a different tune? NOPE!!!!! They are psychotic and to expect any of them to change their tune now, well then you have a better chance of seeing the tooth fairy. They NEVER change.

After all of the celebrating on this thread about James Woods’ house burning down, after all of the attempts to justify why it’s cool to be happy that someone lost their home in a fire, guess what.

James Woods house did not burn down. But thousands and thousands of others did. I’m certain most of them were deep blue Democratic voters.

It’s never ever a nice thing to celebrate a tragedy to someone. Look at the thousands of people in CA now homeless. If the trump gang celebrates their loss (which I’m sure they will), how is the celebrating and gloating on this thread any different?

It was an ugly look.
