This planet was destroyed because of the insatiable greed of corporations and
bribing politicians to look the other way.

If the planet is destroyed by fire and water, I wonder if a thousand years
from now when earth has repaired itself, anthropologists will have any idea
people from this era ever existed?

And many of the subsequent fire tonight, are from burning embers in the wind. It's really tragic. Santa Ana wind is dangerous enough on its own, add fire and it's catastrophic.

We will either choose to lower our birthrate, or we will suffer a massive die-off.

There just isn't any way this over-population will continue.

...in those countries (which is proven to reduce birthrates), we hold back on supporting women's healthcare in those countries, and we even gleefully send over religious 'missionaries' who promote creating large families while preaching against contraception and abortion.

The challenges might be closer to home than we think.

her son had to Evacuate from Brentwood.

I haven't heard yet how their home is. I was there visiting in January 2020... I bought a souvenir that resembles a license plate with the Hollywood Hills sign on it.

I'm so Sorry for all the Surreal Heartbreaking Devastation.

Let us know how she is doing. This is all so devastating yet surreal at the same time. It doesn’t seem possible that entire neighborhoods, libraries, banks, schools, grocery stores , just gone. I can’t imagine losing a home with every possession just gone.

We’re very east of all the fires going right now. But my husband works downtown and has to wear a mask because of all the smoke and ashes. He’s coughing tonight, feeling a bit irritated. We do a lot of things out towards Hollywood or Pasadena, Santa Monica etc. We both lived in the LA area before. We just went to the Dolby theater in Hollywood on Christmas Eve to see the Nutcracker, and we went to the movies at the Chinese theater a couple weeks ago. So we’re very sad to see a lot of our favorite places threatened. We’re worried what LA is going to look like after this.

The winds are bad all over our area, too, but we’ve lucked out and haven’t had any fires starting up where we are. Driving is tough, though.

Let us know about your niece! I’ll keep her in my thoughts. Brentwood is so close to everything.

❤️ 💕

I should add that my family was in LA in Jan 2020 for my sister Mary's Memorial... it's her daughter who lives in Brentwood.

And Good News... I just heard that she and her son are still in the Hotel but they will be going back to their home soon. It was so close to the Devastation but it survived. So Full of Gratitude.💙💙💙

I know it really doesn't seem possible that this happened. My heart goes out to the People who are going through this living nightmare.

I was just watching Lawrence on MSNBC talking to a CalFire chief and he was talking about all the families who do get to go back home, but they still have to wait to make sure everything is safe. He said they all want to understandably rush back, but they still have to wait. I can not imagine your family’s joy over this news!

Biden and Harris had a fantastic presser today about their relief plans. Biden is sending federal firefighters and planes/equipment and financial assistance for 180 days. That will probably tick off Trump who sounds like he can’t wait to stick it to California as soon as he gets in office.

Here’s hoping the Santa Ana winds go the hell away soon!

14. Too much outflow
Wed Jan 8, 2025, 11:36 PM

Not enough inflow. So pressure in the system drops and they run dry.

https://apnews.com/article/wildfire-california-climate-603512236222f82c77901db1039e959f]

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was pumping more water from aqueducts and groundwater into the system, but demand was so high, that wasn’t enough to refill three one-million gallon tanks in hilly Pacific Palisades that help pressurize hydrants for the neighborhood. Many went dry and at least 1,000 buildings were engulfed in flames.

Experts said most water systems can’t handle big wildfires and in a forceful press conference, officials implored residents to conserve water and to not attempt to fight fire with garden hoses.

Think. Again.

Don't you see the connection between using large amounts of water in emergency situations and large amonts of water being used up in emergency situations?

On top of that, the same climate change-induced dry conditions that made the vegetation so flammable has also strained the water supply, I think almost everyone understands that.

Takes water pressure & if everyone runs their hose there is none. Old hydrants rely on downhill flow. If your home is uphill that’s a problem.

If pumps are reliant on electrical generators and those break down, that’s a problem.

I take it you don’t live in the dry Western part of the country.
