Some things we can't change, but at least we should acknowledge

The extreme weather of all kinds, all over the world is a result of climate change. I know everyone here at DU believes that, but I'm astonished at the amount of climate deniers there are in the US, especially Trump and his allies.

I also believe that it's too late to fix. We, as a people, are going to have to attempt to mitigate the effects. We have passed the tipping point, in my opinion. Or, at least past the tipping point for many of us, as I'm 72 years old and I think it would need a strict 50-year plan to reverse the effects of climate change.

There are so many things none of us can change. Like that America was built on the backs of slaves and that the Western Europeans stole the land from native Americans through genocide. My ancestors came to America at the turn of the 20th Century, so I. and they had nothing to do with that. But that doesn't matter because I benefited from those actions. Even though I can't change what happened, at least I (and we) should acknowledge that.

So, climate change is real. Many of us baby boomers have benefited from the actions that caused it. The least we can do is acknowledge that it's real. And one of the most obvious ways of doing that is to not vote for politicians who claim that climate change is a hoax, or who want to sanitize and re-write history.

it's worse than believing it's a hoax.

Rather than stupid, they are immoral and corrupt.

for example, the repukes trashing vaccines, you can bet the farm that THEY get all the recommended vaccines - oh yes

think of the issues they have politicized because they know how easily manipulated their base is - abortion, a virus, vaccines, climate, trans folk, CRT, "WOKE", etc - they put the greedy old pig party above America EVERY FUCKING TIME

EDITED TO ADD: THEY POLITICIZE DISASTERS

For articulating their treachery. We are not fighting a culture war or a war on science, they are and they know they can say the right words or lies and certain groups of people will destroy themselves and the rest of the planet.

I thinks skittles is right on the money. And yes it is all about the money. And just like the evil titans of industry convinced the low information, racist voters that diaper Dan was the man for the job, they've convinced them that climate change is a hoax. Even with all of the evidence staring them in the face. Not only do they see the evidence, they want to spit in nature's face and tear up the desert with 4x4 toys, dump oil and trash into our oceans and cut down thousand year old trees along with rain forests.
Nope, I'm afraid nature will have to take matters into it's own hands like during the pandemic. It only took 1 year to see the positive results due to quarantine. Nature began to heal. The earth will be a better place when certain people no longer populate it.
