Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?'

THIS WAS ON A MY FACEBOOK FEED: An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’ I found it interesting

THE SERIOUS ANSWER: Here’s what the majority of anti-Trump voters honestly feel about Trump supporters en masse:

That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought "Fine." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/04/10/trump-university-settlement-judge-finalized/502387002/)

That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, "Okay." (https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hotel-paid-millions-in-fines-for-unpaid-work)

That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, "No problem." (https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/list-trumps-accusers-allegations-sexual-misconduct/story?id=51956410)

That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, "Not an issue." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2015/11/22/donald-trumps-outrageous-claim-that-thousands-of-new-jersey-muslims-celebrated-the-911-attacks/)

That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn't care, you exclaimed, "He sure knows me." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/10/23/president-donald-trump-could-shoot-someone-without-prosecution/4073405002/)

That when you heard him relating a story of an elderly guest of his country club, an 80-year old man, who fell off a stage and hit his head, to Trump replied: “‘Oh my God, that’s disgusting,’ and I turned away. I couldn’t—you know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didn’t want to touch him. He was bleeding all over the place. And I felt terrible, because it was a beautiful white marble floor, and now it had changed color. Became very red.” You said, "That's cool!" (https://www.gq.com/story/donald-trump-howard-stern-story)

That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. (https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/donald-trump-criticized-after-he-appears-mock-reporter-serge-kovaleski-n470016)

That when you heard him brag that he doesn't read books, you said, "Well, who has time?" (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/01/americas-first-post-text-president/549794/)

That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn't commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, "That makes sense." (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/06/19/what-trump-has-said-central-park-five/1501321001/)

That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, "Yes!" (https://www.latimes.com/politics/la-na-trump-campaign-protests-20160313-story.html)

That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man's coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, "What a great guy!" (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/donald-trump-orders-protesters-coat-is-confiscated-and-he-is-sent-into-the-cold-a6802756.html)

That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, "Thumbs up!" (https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2018/08/why-cant-trump-just-condemn-nazis/567320/)

That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, "That's the way I want my President to be." (https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-insult-foreign-countries-leaders_n_59dd2769e4b0b26332e76d57)

That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they're supposed to be regulating and you have said, "What a genius!" (https://www.politico.com/agenda/story/2017/12/29/138-trump-policy-changes-2017-000603)

That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, "That's smart!" (https://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2018-03-05/how-is-donald-trump-profiting-from-the-presidency-let-us-count-the-ways)

That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, "That makes sense." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/politics/wp/2017/09/26/the-very-big-ocean-between-here-and-puerto-rico-is-not-a-perfect-excuse-for-a-lack-of-aid/)

That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, "falling in love" with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, "That's statesmanship!" (https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/02/politics/donald-trump-dictators-kim-jong-un-vladimir-putin/index.html)

That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.” (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/more-5-400-children-split-border-according-new-count-n1071791)

That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise. (https://www.americanprogress.org/issues/democracy/reports/2018/06/04/451570/confronting-cost-trumps-corruption-american-families/)

What you don't get, Trump supporters, is that our succumbing to frustration and shaking our heads, thinking of you as stupid, may very well be wrong and unhelpful, but it's also...hear me...charitable.

Because if you're NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

Good stuff. Thinking about MAGA's POV and our own. I wonder for example, why would they think any past President would be cordial to Trump? Everyone's assembled to pay tribute to Jimmy Carter as a man and as a President. They all know the cruel things Trump has said bout Carter in the past even as recently as his 100th birthday. Trump referred to him as the worst President ever. So why should they give Trump any respect today? Which brings me to the really irritating thing. Obviously Trump and his hanger-on had to be seated somewhere. But who decided to put this racist pig next to Obama? I'm so tired of the "it's OK" approach. It's NOT OK to sit those men beside each other. It's like siting two of the "opposites" together when apartheid was still in vogue. But the worst part of it is that Obama (one who knows all about Trump's use of optics) even gave him the time of day less engaged in a smiling response to something he said. I mean, what could have possibly come out of that man's mouth that would be the l,east bit humorous at such a solemn occasion? Obama should have known better. He went right down the "it's OK" path.

Their brains seem to stop developing after puberty. While they can learn and achieve advanced degrees, they are running on PC/AT hardware. Their degrees show a level of book smart, but application is hindered by their internal wiring. Also, may have grown up with asshole parents and they then develop that as a coping mechanism and pass that to their children.

they don't want to admit they have been and are wrong.

Sort of like the decompression the Germans felt after the Second World War. Hitler, the concentration camps, their cities bombed, the population hunting for food. To this day, there are elderly Germans who still reminisce about the "good old days" when Hitler ran Germany. And then there are others who just can't admit Hitler and the Third Reich were their worst mistake.

They identify with the bully, not the nice guy who cares

They identify typically with what white bullies idenifty with:
guns, sports, wrestling, beer, white superiority, being
straight, expecting women to know their place, etc.

Education, critical thinking skills, and empathy do not
matter.

If you are someone that claims "it was the economy and the price of eggs" - then you are stupid.
We all have computers in our pockets. Like most people, you probably " research" almost everything you do these days.
Need a new dishwasher? Your car needs new tires? Moving to a new neighborhood? Need directions? What's the weather going to be today?
Heck, even looking up the price of eggs.
But one of the most consequential decisions, a decision that requires serious thought - somehow that lead you to voting for a conman and a party that has no plan to help you.
Yeah, you are stupid. Or like I said, one of the other descriptors I mentioned or a combination of all 3.

No morals. No guiding principles.
It fits. There was a study that showed that trump voters preferred Kamala Harris' plans, when they did not know it was hers.
Thus, they know what is right. They are choosing to do otherwise to be on team MAGA. Goes back to that combination, hateful bigot, stupid and immoral.

It is sad and disturbing how he has rallied so many. He did deliver on abortion bans, and for some, that is enough to keep supporting him. Wealthy corporate heads do not care about anything but their profits, and democracy is for other people.

These people are in an echo chamber (like many of us) and do not get any real news. So, you might be surprised that a matter-of-fact post might break through the noise. If you are worried about retribution, create a Facebook persona where you can easily shut down abusive responses (the anonymity of these social media sites makes it easy to be cruel or dismissive).

51. There is a difference between ignorant and stupid. . . .

This is a great post and I will bookmark it but I believe that Trump supporters are ignorant and lack critical thinking skills rather than being stupid. Granted, there are a bunch of stupid people in the world, but we are being fed through social media and MSM and zillions of bots what to think and "believe."

The Evangelicals and other religious leaders loud voices have drowned out reality with their "belief system" in the other worldly savior and all knowing being. Then, they make up stories and become the mouthpiece of the all knowing being. Let's not forget "forgiveness of all sins."

Next, add in the truly evil people in the world--sociopaths and psychopaths--seeking to destroy everything and everyone that gets in their way.

All of us are being systemically programmed by all of the lies that are being shoved at us in sound bytes. The gullible believe and the not-gullible work hard to prove truth and facts. Critical thinking skills need to be taught and that is missing; particularly, as we downgrade the need for education, which has been happening for quite some time.

What a mess!

Their total disdain for educated, informed of the facts, citizens burns my butt as well. There are no "alternative facts." Those are lies, pure and simple.

They seemingly respect and honor the constant dumbfuckery and misinformation that right-wing propagandists spoon-feed them every single minute of the day, while rejecting logic, honor, and truth.

I avoid them exactly like the plague they are.

Even if presented with this, the "supporters" will not be convinced of anything. They won't let facts or reality get in the way of their narrative.

..... dumb down our public education systems by every means possible.

Here are a few of the things that have happened recently.

Wanting to hang the Ten Commandments in every classroom. They can't read and understand them themselves.

They have stopped teaching cursive writing. How soon before you are denied right (aka) the write-to vote because your signature doesn't match?
All Xs look the the same.

They haven't taught CIVICS for years, so no one, including some congress members, don't know how our government works.

Television is meant to lead you to their way of thinking. Ads, brainless programs, sports—if you're watching sports, you'll miss them picking your wallet. There is news (LOL) meant to lie to you while they enrich themselves.

Question: How many congress members and senators go to Congress as an average family member with a decent income? But then stay long after they serve your interests and focus on THEIR need to get rich by investing in the stock market based on inside information on what to buy and when to sell stocks. Those are the ones that will do anything to advance their own needs. Ask yourselves how many FINALLY leave Congress as millionaires. Bribery comes in many shades and from many sources. $$$$$$$$$$. That is the key.

Term Limits would start to reverse the state we have allowed Congress to become.

they allow themselves to be lied to and manipulated by a con man who has nothing but contempt for them.

He is able to do that by giving them someone to look down on and feel contempt for in their turn.

They turn out their pockets for him for that.

How stupid would you have to be?

77. It's all about making hate socially acceptable
Fri Jan 10, 2025, 11:55 PM

That's the real bottom line here. I have many conservative friends at my church, and that's all it comes down to for them.

Party of Family Values? Not anymore - not when you voted for a man who's divorced 3 times, publicly cheating on each wife. Then there's the Access Hollywood tape; a fine example of how to behave with your daughters. Hmmm, maybe that topic is off the table now.

How about the Party of Law And Order? Why would these people vote for someone with 34 felony convictions? Who's an adjudicated rapist? Nope, can't use that topic anymore.

How about the Party of Fiscal Responsibility? This is the party that has run up The Debt way beyond what the Democrats do each and every time they come in to power. TSF has ballooned the debt in his first term to more than double any other president. Guess the debt preaching isn't going to work either.

So what else is left as Chief Talking Points for the GOP? Nothing. They have become The Party of Whatever Donald Wants. That is the official strategy of the RNC. No shit.

What does TSF want? Hate, revenge, and more hate. Hate of immigrants, LGBTQ, women, Hispanic families, Democrats, foreigners of any kind. Basically hate of everyone who is not old white male straight and really fucking wealthy. So that is what the GOP offers to all my Christian friends - hate and making it socially acceptable.

Have I missed anything here?

Not all of the 77 million are low information or ignorant by choice.

Unfortunately, many are well educated and solid middle and upper middle class. I know a few.

I can only say that it seems that the Felon voters aspire to be like him:
- Lie and cheat
- Bully and make fun of people
- Not pay your debts
- Commit crimes
- Receive bribes
- End democracy

That is what we have as our neighbors now. I hope that you and your family stay safe.

These Trump voters, and I'll exclude the cultists, just don't pay attention. They only care about what affects them right now, today. For them, what they cared about was food and other costs going up after a decade or more being flat due to the and since great recession of 2007-08 before the covid shutdown of 2020-21.

With just minimal thought, it was easy to predict that prices would rise for various reasons because of supply chain disruptions and from companies using covid to add an extra price hike to make up for the 10+ years they weren't able to raise prices after the great recession hit.
