Of course he does.
Warren Davidson of Ohio says aid should be withheld until the state ravaged by wildfires reforms forestry management
A Republican US congressman from Ohio has called for federal disaster relief to be withheld from California unless the state reforms its forestry management practices that some blame for the rapid spread of wind-fanned fires that broke on Tuesday.
Warren Davidsons remarks to Fox Business Maria Bartiromo on Friday came as Californias Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, urged officials to avoid politicizing the response to the blazes which had killed people and destroyed thousands of homes.

They also ignore the fact that much of the land where these fires start is federal land
Sorry but if some misfortune befalls these rethugs, like train derailments with toxic chemicals, tornadoes, etc. I hope some throws their bullshit back in their ugly faces.

(1,138 posts)Right now, he says these fires started in the city and moved outward. If the Californians are not given aid they should not have to pay into the federal government for next few years. It should be an exemption for them.

The Federal Government owns 57% of the forest lands, The state and local government have 3%, 40% is privately owned. Over one third of the state is forest, about 33 million acres.

(2,571 posts)Stupid git needs schooled about Santa Ana wind events. A rather well known, somewhat common phenomenon. "Forest management " has nothing to do with it. The "forest" is fire adapted chapparal shrub. And once the fiery blowtorch hits dense urban buildup, it's a different critter altogether.

(17,146 posts)Forestry management has, for most of the 20th century, been about suppressing fires at all costs. Which has been a problem in a lot of places. I think that's changed a bit, but there are also a lot of introduced species (like eucalyptus) that burn easily and often, which doesn't help.
But the thing about climate change is that it is unpredictable. So lots of rain/snow some years and very little the next. Also too many people in vulnerable areas, but that is basically everywhere. If it's not fire, it's earthquakes or hurricanes or tornadoes or whatever.
Maybe building codes can start by banning certain fire-prone materials and plants.
You couldn't pay me to live in California because of fire and earthquakes. I also will never live anywhere where hurricanes are likely. I live in Maryland and we still had tornadoes 2 years in a row that went directly over my house. Basically we are all vulnerable to something, especially places people WANT to live in. Othewise we could all move to Ohio.
