Amazon joins other companies in cutting back diversity programs

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) told employees in December that it would be "winding down" some of its programs focused on diversity, equity and inclusion, the tech giant confirmed Friday.

In a memo to the Inclusive eXperiences and Technology team viewed by the Business Journal, Vice President Candi Castleberry said the Seattle-based tech giant is ending some of the "outdated programs and materials" and integrating some of its DEI initiatives companywide.

"Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes — and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture," Castleberry wrote.

She said company planned to complete the wind-downs by the end of 2024. An Amazon spokesperson declined to detail what changes have been made.

He's largely involved with his space company Blue Origin these days. That may explain his getting cozier with Trump. He wants some of the same subsidies Musk is getting.

like a lot of policies, come into favor, then in time wane. We see this over and over agin in corporate HR,

The company I currently work for, a startup Tech company with very libreal founders, discontinued DEI late 2023. It wasn't really doing anything different in a small company of 50 people. We're looking for rainbow unicorn Engineers with rare specific skill sets. If you can find one, throw crazy amounts of money at them and hire them. Doesn't matter who they are. DEI never came into play. In much larger companies it may come into play.

AND that bad habit of "want it, buy it" has gone away. Good for my bank account, good for the environment.
