Yes but they should do it where it is feasible. Irish_Dem Jan 2025 #5

But the cost to do so will be enormous and it's may not possible in some areas. The canyons and mountainous areas may be impossible since you can't get the digging equipment there. Or the ground isn't easily dug in. It's easier to punch a hole through rock to seat a pole then to dig a miles long trench through it to lay power lines.

It seems logical and reasonable that where there are plumbing lines that go underground across those terrains, so there can be power lines. One benefit, is that if any transformers spark, they will be away from winds, be gps located and repaired more safely.

Where are the wires to the right of the floating post? One indication of AI is the center of the image being clear but the edges being wonky. This has wonky edges. This has my AI Spidey senses tingling.

Google street views? Doubtful they've been by to record the carnage.

I'm even more convinced the OP's photo is doctored. Because in this shot, there are wires attached to the pole further down than the top that is supposedly suspended in the first photo because the pole had burned. Those lines are still in the OP photo, even though the pole supporting them no longer exists.
