There is a correlation between the rise of mass shootings and right wing hysteria in this country. The Republican party celebrates lack of compassion and vitriol as virtues. This infects the public mood which sets something off in certain people. Those people turn that rage outward in the form of mass killings of innocents.A timeline of mass shootings since Columbine.
There is a rise in mass shootings in this country, and they follow a pattern. The further the Republican party goes to the right, the less humane they become. The less humane they become, the more mass shootings we see. This happened in the late 90s when we saw mass hysteria in the GOP in the form of Clinton derangement syndrome, and we see it even worse now with Obama derangement syndrome. Now, with the reelection of Obama, the pendulum is starting to swing back to the left. And the crazy is reaching the boiling point. The Republican party reacts by wallowing in inhumanity and greed. We see this playing out in GOP party politics. Just look at their positions on the debt ceiling or Obamacare. More and more, whatever compassion they once held melts away and is replaced with selfishness, greed, intolerance and anger. They have become the 'every man for himself' party.
With this rise in anger comes a form of social dysfunction. This plays out in many ways. Right wing bigotry goes up. They lash out at women, liberals, gays, foreigners, blacks, Mexicans, Muslims hippies, lesbians and anyone else who does not fit their mold. This social dysfunction breeds a climate of lunacy. We hear talk of militias, secession, revolution, cries of communism, Marxism and fascism. They scream of the evils of helping your fellow man. The evils of the commons. Good is bad. Right is wrong. It becomes acceptable to be openly crazy.
We see these images on TV. Over and over we hear the Glenn Beck's and Ann Coulters and Rush Limbaughs of the world screaming to the high heavens about these supposed evils seeping in through the cracks. This builds a climate in this country which infects us all, some worse than others.
I would submit that the craziness leading to these acts of violence is induced by this climate. That with the rise and fall of lunacy within the Republican party, so rise and fall the mass shootings.
In the late 90s when Clinton Derangement syndrome was at it's peak, we saw a sharp uptick of mass shootings in this country. When Bush won, the number of shootings dropped. The crazies were temporarily placated and the vitriol subsided. The violent imagery of the Clinton hysteria was out of view. The level of mass violence subsided with it.
In 2007, when the Democrats started campaigning, the crazies on the right began to get louder in response and the shootings began again. They got worse through 2008 when the general election saw the rise of Sarah Palin and the McCain Palin Mobs. The mass shootings continued throughout 2009. In 2012, with the new election, the crazy went back into overdrive. The shootings came with it. Now that the pendulum is swinging back to the left, the vitriol on the right is back at full throttle, along with it the mass shootings.
The problem IS mental health and this craziness is INDUCED by RIGHT WING HYSTERIA.
