Bring back Keith Olbermann. Get rid of Ari Melber. Move Chris and Joy up an hour each. Put Keith in at the 8:00 PM slot. Do that and the audience will come back.

(1,461 posts)Sorry but Keith has a very inflated, out of control ego much like what will be in the White House on Monday afternoon..

(2,122 posts)When they are sold by Comcast then all of the cable & streaming services are not going to pay for it. The NBC TV networks are part of a package deal, so the cable or streaming provider pays one price for all of the networks. The same thing will happen to CNBC.

(114,388 posts)I do think he has a lot of respect for Rachel, though. Most of his other colleagues? Not so much...

(10,272 posts)I think you are correct that he has (or had) respect for her, but I also think he credits himself with her success. He also recently said: She just re-signed for $25 million. If you think shed do anything for principle, Ill light a candle for you. I honestly think he's jealous of her success with MSNBC.
I like Keith, but his narcissism, while not quite on the level of Trump, is still super high.

(10,272 posts)He also remained friends with her for some time after that. But at some point she did some things that pissed him off enough to make him start trashing her for various misdeeds. When he has talked about her, it's always felt like he was exaggerating some things, and like with Maddow, I think he credits himself for her success in her career. However, I have to believe it is mostly true and accurate or else he would be open to a defamation suit from her.

(7,900 posts)How many years of experience do you have managing a news gathering organization or programming a Television network? Also, what data is the conclusion based on? Audience research done by Nielsen or other experienced measurement firm? Or maybe focused groups conducted in various cities with former MSNBC viewers?

(9,083 posts)I stopped watching news on November 6, 2024 because I don't want to hear G&G's* voice or see his face. As much as I'd like to have Keith back, it wouldn't make enough of a difference to me that I would start watching the news again.
*G&G is my new nickname for POTUS Elect. It stands for "Gas & Groceries", the respective current prices of which Michael Cohen has said were decisive in the outcome of the 2024 election.

(12,335 posts)I turned off broadcast news like many others after the election. Before that, MSNBC was my go-to for broadcast news.
Im ready to tune back in if they play an antagonistic role to the oligarchy. Ari is ideal for that moment. That is unless he changed in post election coverage. I havent watched more than 15 minutes of any news channel since then.

(6,670 posts)While Olbermann enjoyed a successful show during his era, both he and the landscape of media have evolved significantly. I am skeptical that he could attract the same level of viewership as before. Furthermore, even in the event of a resurgence in viewership, the numbers he previously garnered might not suffice to revitalize the network.
The challenges facing MSNBC are complex, and there is no singular quick-fix solution that can ensure its recovery.

And it's the ownership that's the problem here, like CNN, they're likely MAGATs themselves.
Let it die a natural death.
