Jill Biden is still hurt by Nancy Pelosis vote of no confidence in her husbands reelection. Ive been thinking a lot about relationships, the first lady said in an interview with The Washington Post published Wednesday. Its been on my mind a lot lately, and we were friends for 50 years, she said of Pelosi. It was disappointing.
Pelosis comments on Morning Joe in July 2024, in the midst of questions about Bidens mental health after a horrendous debate performance, were far from an endorsement.
Its up for the president to decide if hes going to run. Were all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short, she said at the time. I want him to do whatever he decides to do.
Pelosi told The New Yorker in August that the president hadnt spoken to her since he dropped out of the race. When asked if their friendship could survive, Pelosi said, I hope so. I pray so. I cry so.

(2,248 posts)The way some Democrats handled the situation was pretty shameful. The double-speak did no one any good and frankly, I'm surprised the party didn't come out of it worse off because of her actions.

(5,756 posts)After the first debate the establishment basically said it was President Biden's choice to make if he were staying in the race. He publicly said he was. The establishment then said we will give him time to make his choice. He then sent a 'dear collogues' letter again saying he was staying in the race. The establishment responded again, we will give him time to make the right choice. A few days later and elected Democrats were calling for him to drop out.
Now I think it was ALSO hubris on his part to even run for reelection but the way it played out was not a good look at all.

I felt we were in for trouble then

(10,497 posts)and some of Joe Bidens closest staff tried to keep Joes frailty from the public and Democrats. Many people observed in early January, at least those who were paying attention, that Joe did not appear up to the task of running an aggressive campaign against Trump.
Some think that instead of bashing Pelosi and other Democrats who expressed concerned about Joe, that more blame should be placed at the feet of Joe Biden, Jill Biden, and his staff.
Some think that no one threw Joe Biden under the bus and the Joe tried to throw the Democratic Party under the bus by his insistence on running for reelection.
