Go grocery shopping. Keep the receipts

It’s a good idea to go grocery shopping this week for the goods you buy regularly, then keep the receipt. The price of a tank of gas too. It will be useful to compare to prices as the second Trump era progresses.

I’m guessing that I’ll be making the comparison in posts on Nextdoor, letters to the editor of my local paper, on Instagram and like that. Where overtly political messages won’t get through the filters that affect many people’s judgement, simple price comparisons might.

And it will help me know that I’m not going crazy, that things are getting objectively worse under Trump and his Republican toadies. Maybe they’ll get a spot in the family photo album that a grandchild or great grandchild will look at in amazement.

1. Gas is already going up here in Montana. It was $2.69 a gallon. Now it's $2.89, I believe. Thanks, Rump!

The discount brands are 2.59 to 2.65 here in N. Alabama which is about what they were through the holidays.

3. Yeah, in lower Alabama, gas prices have gone up 20-30 cents a gallon in the past two weeks.

That's probably because of the fires in Cali, but I would rather blame it on the felonious one.

8. Every time gas prices went up during Joe Biden's term, the other side blamed Joe. When prices came down, crickets.

So we, too, should blame Orange Jesus for rising gas prices.

DOW at 43,600
Inflation at 2.9%
Unemployment at 4.1%
Economy producing 200,000 jobs a month on average.
Gas $3.11 a gallon
GDP of over 3%.

that's what Trump is inheriting, and he should be jusdged on which direction those numbers move.

the price of eggs, gallon of gas and blah, blah, blah - being notoriously inaccurate as any sort of real yardstick ...

Also want point out (although shouldn't really have to) that increasing prices is the norm over time, and thus should be expected. Now if we start getting a lot of real spikes in consumer goods .. with our economists pointing to tariffs as primary cause .... Then that's a little different scenario.

You’re saying my lived experience isn’t real? If my basket of groceries goes up 5 or 10 or 15%, I shouldn’t worry. It’s only GDP that matters?
