New Tennessee bill could rename Nashville airport after President-elect Trump

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A new bill in Tennessee was filed on Friday that could change the name of the Nashville International Airport. It was filed by Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill), ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday, Jan. 20.

HB 0217 applies to international airports operated by metropolitan airport authorities in counties with more than 500,000 residents (which would be Nashville) to be renamed Trump International Airport.

According to the bill, it requires the metropolitan airport authority to take steps to implement the name change. This includes setting up new signage, changing registered trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), revising all existing contracts and legal documents to reflect the new name and updating references with local, state and federal agencies.

During the transition period, the airport may conduct business using its current name with the designation "doing business as Trump International Airport" or "d/b/a Trump International Airport.

Tennessee outlawed the teaching of evolution. And a trial was held because a biology teacher purposely taught evolution, was arrested, and imprisoned.

None other than Clarence Darrow volunteered his legal services for the teacher and William Jennings Bryant acted as the prosecutor. The latter used a Bible to prove that teaching evolution in public schools not only violated Tennessee state law, but God's law as well.

Succinctly, evolution premised that humans evolved from primates (monkeys/apes) as per Darwin's writings.

Anyway, it was gonna be too much work.

The plan to rename the entire airport after him was adjusted due to logistical concerns. Consultants informed council that it could cause confusion for people booking flights among other issues.

“When management approached the airport consultant, they did say renaming an airport becomes complicated because on the business side, when booking a flight to our airport, if they see the Henry Cuellar Airport, they won’t know where that is,” Saenz said. “So they strongly suggested we keep the Laredo International Airport name not to hurt our city economically. It’s also complicated from the standpoint of FAA rules and changes that need to be made.”

Laredo International Airport director Gilberto Sanchez also cited the amount of documentation that would need to be updated as a concern for a full airport name change.

“There are some regulations on the airport specific documents like the airport certification manual that we’d have to change, the airport emergency plan, the airport security plan, all the leases we currently have,” he said. “It is doable, but it is a lengthy process, and it is very complicated.”

Two years ago, Laredo was gonna rename their airport to Henry Cuellar International Airport. (After one of DU's least favorite Democratic congressmen)

They ran into some snags with the rename, so they only named a terminal after him.
