It's possible they didn't even have to shut it down. It's done as a kiss to SHitler so he can appear as the "hero" who brings it back.

It will be likely be monetized by SHitler or one of his plutocrat lapdogs, outright or indirectly.

For SHitler, national security considerations don't matter if it helps HIM or his billionaire plutocrat admin and friends.

Even some MAGA are angry about him "saving" it. Trump is for TRUMP. Nothing else. Nobody else.

He will be self-dealing 24x7x365, as will the rest of the plutocracy.

That's not why it was banned. It was banned because Zuckerberg lobbied to get it banned because he was losing revenue. PLUS the fact that TikTok users where communicating things to each other the powers that be don't like. There was a rise in dissatisfaction with the American system, and fewer people were likely to say this is "the greatest country in the world" and all that utter horseshit. They don't like it because it is pulling the curtain back.

Well, they just can't have that now can they?

TikTok was and will continue to wake people up to just how bad they're getting screwed by the late stage capitalism that is rampant in this country and around the world.

Think. Again.

Because they got nothing else except what I mentioned. Also it was crammed into an appropriations bill that the President was in favor of, and since he doesn't have a line item veto, it was passed. It's a stupid ban that only serves the people that don't want Americans talking to each other with no supervision.

A couple of points;
TikTok is not publicly traded, just like Twitter/"X" is now so it doesn't have to be as public as Meta or Google does, .

The CEO of TikTok is Singaporean, NOT Chinese.

The data of the American TikTok users is held on servers based in this country, not China.

The company is majority owned by American private capital and 20% by its employees.

The whole idea that the app is somehow a direct pipeline to and from the Chinese Communist Party is utter horseshit. Not to mention there is plenty of right wing users who put up content favorable of Trumpy and the political right in this country.

Or am I wrong?

Didn't he want it banned in his first term?

He's such a scamming POS with no cares about the security of this country and the world.

He not only puts this country in danger, but also the world. When is that fast food diet gonna take effect?

I am deeply concerned of his executive orders. We went from Biden to this nightmare. I'm not very religious, but this is some diabolical times we live in.

I mean, this is absolutely the first time Trump reversed himself and the rank hypocrisy must be pointed out.

Except that when Trump speaks it's without regard to either the truth or what he said before. It's been that way for years and it's likely to be that way until he's uttered his last syllable.

Then again, 4.5 years is long enough time to reverse one's opinion. He wouldn't be the first politician to do that.

(But really, the reason for his proposed ban was that it was benefitting Biden-Harris and not him in the run up to the election. The reason for his defense of it now is the reverse--he perceives it as having benefitted him more than Harris-Walz during the most recent campaign.)

TRUMP banned Tik-Tok in 2020 via an executive order. It was never implemented due to a court injunction and then Biden issued an executive order in 2021 revoking the ban.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump%E2%80%93TikTok_controversy

https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/202486

Trump changed his position on banning TikTok about a year ago. Trump's main argument he made against banning TikTok was to keep Zuckerberg (Meta/Facebook) from having an effective monopoly on some parts of social media (Facebook). Now that Zuckerberg has gone full on MAGA, Trump's objection is likely not that strong anymore. In fact, I'm sure he doesn't really give a damn about it.

In March 2024, Trump reversed his position on banning TikTok, and began advocating against banning the app. Trump argued that while the app's national security and data privacy concerns should still be addressed, banning TikTok would empower Facebook, which he labeled the "enemy of the people."

Biden said the same thing but Apple and Google shut it down anyway because they’re the ones on the hook legally if they flout this federal law.

I don’t think that changes if it’s Biden or Traitor saying “you’re not banned!”. The penalty is severe - like $5k/day/user for running TikTok without divestiture.

IANAL and would welcome DU’s legal team weighing in.

Passively "not enforcing" simply means that he would not sue them in his last 36 hours. That doesn't mean the fines would not accrue.

He will issue an executive order pausing the ban for 90 days. The authority to pause things for 90 days was written into the law itself. He does not have the ability to revoke the ban. This is the best he can do. He will have 90 days to figure something out, but "undoing the ban" via executive order is not an option.

Note Trump's primary argument for not banning TikTok was to keep Zuckerberg (Meta/Facebook) from having an effective monopoly on some parts of social media (Facebook). Now that Zuckerberg has gone full on MAGA, Trump's objection is likely not that strong anymore. In fact, I'm sure he doesn't really give a damn about it.
