Biden hit pieces -- as if things aren't bad enough

“If I was Lady McBiden, I’d put on my big girl pants, play the long game and think about my husband’s legacy,” Alexandra Pelosi, the former speaker’s daughter, told me Saturday. “There aren’t that many people left in America who have something nice to say about Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi is one of them.” The younger Pelosi made clear she was speaking only for herself.

The onslaught on Biden is insane. I have been reading hit piece after hit piece after hit piece. The world has gone mad, I'm sure.

I can't say how thankful I am to start my day with the LOL Salmon Enchanted because it's the only glimpse of tranquility I experience lately. Comfort food for my soul.

I congratulate Biden for his years of service. I can't imagine how soul crushing this last year has been for him. What is happening to him is beyond comprehension to me.

If I am in the minority so be it...... I'll be in Joe Biden's minority every day

After the donald’s first four years, JOE BIDEN stepped up and brought honor and dignity - AND honesty and integrity - back to the White House. Focusing on building from the bottom up and middle out.

There is also something else, which has never been reported, that also angers Pelosi friends and family about Biden’s treatment: how she privately went about urging the president to withdraw.

On July 10 of last year, less than two weeks after the now-infamous debate, Pelosi slipped into the White House residence early in the morning. Initially speaking to Biden alone, Pelosi expressed her concerns about polls that showed his standing was plummeting and the president pushed back, insisting he could still win.

But the point, Pelosi allies say, is that her initial efforts to persuade Biden were done with dignity not a dagger.

“There were no threats,” one person familiar with the conversation told me. “She just told him the truth — he was losing in every poll, and people had lost confidence.”

I was upset when they begin piling on Biden at the time. It was ugly, IMO. I thought it wrong.

Then when Kamala came on stage the energy changed. Things felt positive. New energy. I said I must have been wrong...In retrospect maybe the energy felt better because I was comparing the cloud that had formed to sunshine.

In my simpletons view and simple math, I think Biden is correct. I think he would have won. Had Biden remained on the ticket....here is my equation:

# of people that voted for Harris that would have stayed at home or voted against Biden = 0
# of people that stayed at home or voted against Harris > 0

If I am right or wrong is of no consequence. Clearly those that insisted on Biden dropping out were wrong. We lost. We lost big in ways small and large. I admit when i am wrong. All I hear is blame Biden either way.

Your equation is biased by what you want to believe. If Harris couldn't separate herself from the Biden policies that were unpopular, how does Biden, especially given his physical decline?

Given where the polling was before Biden dropped out, he was on track to lose in a landslide. How does he turn that around? He was never good at the rah rah rally stuff. He wasn't willing to engage on inflation or immigration until very late in the game.

Sorry, but I can guarantee that there were many, probably millions of people that voted for Harris that would have stayed at home or voted against Biden. The real equation is this:

# of people that voted for Harris that would have stayed at home or voted against Biden >>> 0

https://www.usnews.com/news/national-news/articles/2024-09-04/exclusive-poll-shows-harris-ignites-enthusiasm-among-young-adults-in-critical-swing-states

Nobody knows if Biden would have won. Polling implies that Biden would have lost by a larger margin. What is known is that Harris attracted many, many votes of people who would have never voted for Biden.

After the first debate the establishment basically said it was President Biden's choice to make if he were staying in the race. He publicly said he was. The establishment then said we will give him time to make his choice. He then sent a 'dear collogues' letter again saying he was staying in the race. The establishment responded again, we will give him time to make the right choice. A few days later and elected Democrats were calling for him to drop out.

Now I think it was ALSO hubris on his part to even run for reelection but the way it played out was not a good look at all. My opinion of Congresswoman Pelosi will always be diminished because of this incident.

Biden's lackluster performance during the debate had several causes.
He had been globe trotting the previous to the debate, trying to deal with REAL PRESIDENTIAL PROBLEMS, and was likely tired as anyone would be.

The biggest problem with his performance, was his preparation crew, not preparing him for Trump to use an infamous Debate Technique, which was well known, called GISH GALLOP. This nepharious technique unscrupulously used in debating has been known for decades. Trump was most known using this technique in past performances, but was coached to ratchet it up to a high level with Biden.......Biden's team should have prepared him for it, just in case it was utilized, recognize it, dismiss it, and the team should have prepped him for a counter offense.

If you are not knowledgeable about this technique, google/wiki it......

It falls under: "If you can't dazzle them with Brilliance, Baffle them with bullshit" That has has been the Republican Mantra ever since Ike. In the case of Trump during the debate, Trump was prepared with an overwhelming tsunami of bullshit the likes of which had never been seen/used before.
Being stunned by it, due to being exhausted from being stressed with world matters and Jet Fatigue, and no prep, he was vulnerable to this nasty debate technique used by his opponent.

It's called "OAN Plus", and it's basically a multiple-hours-long infomercial for OANN which features all their most partisan shows (including the execrable Chanel Rion). OANN's programming has to be seen to be believed. The attacks on Biden are just relentless and often completely incorrect. I've heard nonstop accusations of various dementias and age-related ailments, none of which are backed up with even the slightest medical evidence. And that's just from tuning in OAN Plus for a few minutes a day (which is all I can stand). It's really disturbing--like an American version of North Korean state TV.

Sun Jan 19, 2025, 03:40 PM

to the word “excrement” and assumed it was related, but I did not find a connection for that etymology.

execrate (v.)

"to curse, imprecate evil upon," hence "to detest utterly, abominate," 1560s, from Latin execratus/exsecratus, past participle of execrari/exsecrari "to curse, utter a curse, take a solemn oath with imprecations; hate, abhor," from ex "out" (see ex-) + sacrare "to devote to" (see sacred). Hence, "to devote off or away; to curse." Compare consecrate. Related: Execrated; execrating.

excrement (n.)

1530s, "waste discharged from the body," from Latin excrementum, from stem of excretus, past participle of excernere "to sift out, discharge," from ex "out" (see ex-) + cernere "sift, separate" (from PIE root *krei- "to sieve," thus "discriminate, distinguish&quot . Originally any bodily secretion, especially from the bowels; exclusive sense of "feces" is since mid-18c. Related: Excremental; excrementitious.

As for Chanel Rion, I think you will find she fits the definition of the word fairly well. Rion has appeared in many a DU post, but not as recently. So I'll remedy that with a couple of links to past DU coverage of Ms. Rion. She started out in the White House press pool during Covid, and was eventually banned for refusing to mask. She now has a truly execrable show on OANN, "Fine Point with Chanel Rion".

Ms. Rion is well-known (infamous?) for her questionable sartorial choices when it comes to work attire. Note that this photo is not an aberration. Rion arrived at the White House in outfits like this on the regular.

Glad to meet you!

I'm very pro Biden. I was very pro-Harris once she was the presumptive nominee, and I love Tim Walz. But I think the trashing of Biden by so-called Democrats is awful and stupid, beyond being technically incorrect on almost every point.

President Biden was treated like shit - from people who should have been loyal allies. It was absolutely shameful. Shocking and embarrassing. Disgraceful. And TOTALLY undeserved! They could have locked in solidly behind him and helped promote his agenda. But no. They just HAD TO kick him in the teeth every chance they got.

I think you’re right. History will be kind to him. At this point, I can only hope that he lives long enough to see it.

And I bet that when he dies, they’ll be falling all over themselves praising him for what a kind, noble, honest, compassionate leader he was - AND how they were right there by his side and supportive as can be, the whole time. Schmucks!

Biden's decision to run for a second term and the impact it had on the 2024 election will be discussed for years - especially the part about the catastrophic debate and reaction from the party.

Overall, Biden was a great president. Not great was the inexplicable lack of support for his accomplishments from the media, democrats and even his own administration. Had the national effects of some of his legislation actually reached the ears of this nation, his numbers would've been higher. Seems an ongoing issue for democrats.
That said... no one will ever know if Biden would have beaten Trump. And as far as Alexandra Pelosi goes: Girl, you are the one who needs to put your big pants on. Bashing on others is not an admirable trait. It's ugly and serves absolutely no purpose. Keep your family business in the family. It's TMI for the rest of us.

I didn't think he should drop out and was disheartened by it. I was also disheartened by the treatment he got at the debate, sandbagged out of the gate with an out-of-context talking point. Jake Tapper knows better and, if he is an actual journalist, as he claims, he should also have known that Biden had just finished negotiating a very tricky hostages release of five hostage. That should have been mentioned off the top. But assholes like Jake Tapper have decided "debates" are for gotcha moments, not discussions about serious policy issues.

Beyond that, if the press had "concerns" (I use the term loosely here) about Biden's age and insisted on pounding that narrative into the ground, then why weren't they showing equal concern about Trump's age and diminishing capacity? Why didn't they try to trip him up with gotcha moments? Why didn't Jake Tapper ask him about his miserable record as President and being impeached twice? Why didn't the felony convictions come up?

Why are elections won and lost on personality, not policy?

there might be something to it?

I have been a big Biden supporter but I am not blind. A lot of Democrats whom I respect were urging him to get out of the race. And just because those respected Democrats took that stance are we going to throw them all under the bus? I don't think so. I have never felt that blind unquestioning loyalty to any politician is productive. Trump has a blind knee-jerk cult that supports him no matter what. I think that we Dems are better than that.

Because you seem to have ‘blind unquestioning loyality’ to pushing the propaganda campaign from scumbag Chris LaCivita. Mastermind of “swift boats liars,” Trump’s campaign manager very effectively falsely projected Trump’s very real mental instability onto Biden.

let alone have loyalty to him.. This is about what other Democrats did prior to Biden's dropping out. I don't know what it has to do with any Republican.. Actually from what I understand the Republicans wanted Joe to stay in the race because they thought he would be easier to beat.

That despicable lie campaign that turned John Kerry from a genuine war hero to an alleged traitor.

The same Chris LaCivita who turned one of the most empathetic, smart and politically savvy President we’ve ever had into an alleged senile pervert (which Trump is)

There’s reason Trump hired LaCivita.

The fact that you’ve never heard of LaVita is on you. And it is absolutely nothing for you to be proud of or boast about.

But def keep on boasting about ill informed you are about facts and despicable smear campaigns and how they work. and keep on promoting lies from bad faith pundits about Democratics that in the end benefit the GOP/MAGA.

Like that guy said, "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it"

Pelosi, Schumer and President Obama himself worked to that end. And there was George Clooney who worked to get Biden to drop out after having dinner with Obama. I am a big admirer of all of them and I am not ready to throw them under the bus. And I doubt if any of those Dems were working for Chris LaCivita. At the same time as I said before I have always supported President Biden. Also, I am not promoting lies. Everything I said can be backed up by reputable news sources and not just right wing media.

I used to think that it was only the Republicans who engaged in conspiracy theories, but I am beginning to rethink that after some of the stuff I have read at DU.

I always try to understand others positions. I don't base my opinions from an amplified echo chamber.

I concluded it is unjustified and has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I saw the debate. I didn't have my head in the sand.

I can't know if I am right or wrong. It is my opinion. Admittedly I am shell shocked. I am disillusioned. I may not be seeing things clearly...but it feels like I am seeing them clearly. I haven't seen any medical or other documentation to back up nearly all the hit pieces. I have seen what looks very much like mob mentality and people seemingly thinking very highly of themselves in positions that can make that matter.

his failure to investigate, prosecute and jail trump is a big reason why the convicted felon will become president again tomorrow.

Garland had four years and apparently didn't recognize that prosecuting a president who tried to overthrow the government of the US so he could stay in office should be his most important mission on taking the AG's office.
