That sounds like something that might sound silly to many Americans, but since we are now in the middle of the circus, perhaps we should nominate a strong presence like Fetterman as our next candidate for the highest office? Wait! Wait! Wait!
Granted, he would be someone that might appeal to the MAGA Republican base? His down to earth persona and his challenge to authority in the US Senate, with his daily attire, have made him "acceptable" by the MAGA base.
But wait!
That wouldn't be fair?
That would only take away a large amount of votes from the Republican Party in the next election.
Oh wait!
Join the Circus.
Please don't say, "Only if he chooses AOC as his running mate"...

(37,758 posts)Hey, rec this post to a level I have never seen before and I will consider it, revealing my real name in the right time and everything.
The entire purpose is to attack their right flank, the MAGA voters, the common man, that might not be so happy by the next election and "might" look elsewhere for new leadership. The intent is not to win, but to fragment the Republican Party enough, so that they cannot win again.
If not Fetterman, then who?

MTG, Gaetz, Santos, Bobert, Gym Jordan all losers with no brains just like tsf.
We need individuals like Fetterman to throw his hat in the ring to find out what voters are attracted
to.

He would hurt us a lot with crucial parts of our Democratic coalition, and Rethugs will not vote for him in numbers big enough to make up for that.

But like last time I think after 3 years a majority of people will be in the "aw fuck no" in regards to dump and we can do much better. I also think a dem light would be a bad choice. Lets face it, americans are just fucking dumb. We need to take advantage of everything we can to get what we need into law cause no matter what dumbfucking americans are going to ignore the good time for a stupid boogyman that scares them and thats what the repubs do. Every single time.

(5,179 posts)and ate at 2 trumpy restaurants, places local Dems would never frequent. Both were known for their opposition to Covid regulations and even opened during that time. One is owned by a man recently involved in a road rage incident where he used a racial slur. How do we know his dining choices? He proudly posted both on Instagram as if throwing it in his liberal supporters faces. So I question his judgment at this point.

(57,757 posts)Just because he's the most Republican-friendly senator doesn't mean they've vote for him. They find him useful, period.
Fetterman has ensured Democrats outside of PA will not vote for him. Why on earth do people want to make everyone President? The party's daddy and mommy fixation with the person at the top to the exclusion of races around the country, especially at the local level, is a problem. 1) it has drastically reduced the Democratic Party's power around the nation, and 2) it's infantile. We don't need a new daddy. We need a winning platform. Even setting all that aside, people would no sooner vote for Fetterman than Manchin or Sinema.

(18,690 posts)For now, he's alienating his own base and turning off voters who voted for him because of his allegiance to the Democratic agenda.
He's not MAGA enough to inspire votes from the other side either.
And IMO he has very little charisma and is not any kind of magnetic speaker.
"Down to earth" is refreshing but it only gets you so far. Kyrsten Sinema did her obsequious ass-kissing and solicitation of financial suitors in private. Fetterman is doing it in public, so I think he risks acquiring a reputation of desperation and cowardice.
My opinion could change if there is some logic or strategy behind is recent behaviors. I'm definitely not any kind of Fetterman hater--just, like many others, I have growing alarm and skepticism.

But it likely won't happen because Democrats as a group are prone to doubling-down on what DOESN'T work (in addition to demonizing the "left"
