She definitely was showing a bit of age when the justices walked in. Could just be paranoia.

(61,033 posts)Thomas and Alito will retires quickly and voila...a 7-3 SCOTUS with young rethug justices for the next two to three generations.
Term limits for the court has to happen or we are so fucked for the next two to three generations.

(24,699 posts)I don't think it has a chance, and if it passed, it would probably only apply to future justices.

You mean 7-2.
7-2 doesn't even matter at this point. 6-3 is enough to stymie all progress, and it will last for decades.

(23,219 posts)especially the ones in the front. Hell shes probably concerned like the rest of the pro-democracy justices.
When the USA goes bankrupt Thomas and his fellow RW colleagues will be highly concerned.
very unhappy to me. Not frail. She seemed to walk just fine and keep up with the others and not lagging behind. She walks better than I do and pretty sure shes older than me.

She is a diabetic.

(845 posts)mean she is overall unhealthy. I am sure she is miserable about this event.

(28,706 posts)Life expectancy is about a dozen years earlier than for the population as a whole.
Thats why some in the party were hoping to get her to step aside in the wake of the election. Of course that was far too late.
Fortunately - she had the best possible health care and all the incentive in the world to avoid being replaced by Trump.

(2,510 posts)She's 70s years old with type 1 diabetes and a history of not managing it well. She has gotten better at managing it in the last few years, but now has been seen traveling with a medic fairly recently (last summer if I remember right).

(24,486 posts)Well, overall we had a good run as a country while it lasted. For over 50 years I have only ever voted for the Democratic candidates and I've considered it my duty to vote. Sadly, that has not been the philosophy of too many Democrats and those on the Left who have no problem in voting for 3rd party candidates or are so complacent that they don't bother to vote at all. We reap what we sow.

(10,377 posts)The only fix in the next few decades will be """packing the Court""" to undo the damage that has been done.
So, to that extent, no, we don't need to worry about Sotomayor because if she ends up being replaced by Trump for whatever reason, it will just be another seat on the Supreme Court that we will need to eventually """pack""" to offset.
