Folks,
I am leaving DU. I appreciate the valuable distractions this place has provided me, but I have decided I am breaking up with all forms of social media as I enter the next decisions of my life.
These next few years are going to be brutal. And I encourage everybody to remain vigliant in the face of adversity -and let's face it: pure stupidity.
But alas the words by Aeschylus as remembered by RFK on the night we lost MLK persist:
"Even in our sleep -pain which does not forget, falls drop by drop upon the heart.
Until, through our despair, against our will, comes wisdom
By the awful grace of God."
I hope that you can use your strength and wisdom in these hard times to deliver -in whatever way you can, for yourselves and each other, the change this world needs.
With Love, In Strength And In Solidarity,
-Colin

(2,452 posts)I've reached a point in my life where I feel I've done enough. I remember back when I was 14 or so years old... the summers were so long I ALMOST wished they would end so I could go back to school. Now they fly by.
And now I'm in the Autumn of the year. I'm going to enjoy what time is left, and on my terms. At the end of the day, social media can take a lot of one's time, and I'm not so sure the results are worth the time spent. I've put several art projects on hold, a friend just gave me a subscription to America's Test Kitchen, and other endeavors just make more sense to me at this point.

(9,321 posts)is to isolate ourselves from the communities that support us. Whether DU, FB, or any other that gave us a feeling of hope, unity, and direction. This is not the time to be alone in our own heads.
Just sayin'.

(109,335 posts)From a mental health perspective, I hope you likewise have trusted like-minded individuals offline to support you. For many of us, we don't really have that, and trusting new people who come into our lives to allow for frank discussion is as unwise and risky as it would have been in the 1930s in Germany. That comment no longer feels as hyperbolic as it once did. No longer is it "trust but verify," but rather totally "verify" and then consider "trusting..."
Take care of yourself.
