Now people on my retired military board

all concerned because Trump put a freeze on federal hiring. Oh my husband is retiring soon and trying to get a federal job. Or my husband was in the process of being hired and I’m so concerned. No sympathy. They should have been concerned before they voted for him. And yes..majority of them voted for him. 🙄 Now that it affects YOU, you are so concerned. Fine when he targets immigrants, other minorities and lgbtq. 🙄

Of course the timing is such that no such deportation could have yet occurred. But it is the buyer's remorse your post alludes to.

There was a report on DU of a Hispanic tRump voter who was dismayed to find out (two weeks or more ago) that some people in his family would be subject to deportation if birthright citizenship were revoked or annulled, as tRump proposes. Dismayed to say the least.

It is not the Mexicans or central Americans who have taken most of the community jobs, it the folks from Russia, Germany, the Balkans who are checking us out at the grocery stores and restaurants in my neck of the woods in Maryland, close to DC. Our neighborhood stores are mostly owned and run by Koreans, Ethiopians, Indians. I don't know what it is like in DC and the Capitol Hill area because I don't visit there much. I do miss the way it used to be.

Tue Jan 21, 2025, 09:41 PM
Jan 21

Depending upon a person's military service, a veteran can be eligible to earn 5 - 10 points when applying for a federal job. I live in the San Diego area and I know a lot of people in the Navy who plan on working for the government when they retire. I guess they'll have to have a backup plan. One Navy friend, enlisted, retired about six months ago and immediately got a job with the Navy doing the same job he did while in the Navy. I'm betting he's glad he retired when he did.

I bowl on two Navy bases in the San Diego area. A lot of them are Trumpers and excited about his election. There are a number of civilians and retired civilians in the leagues and Trump will target Social Security and Medicare for cuts, both of which they and their spouses depend upon.
