This is madness.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/01/21/trump-hhs-cdc-fda-communication-pause/
"The Trump administration has instructed federal health agencies to pause all external communications, such as health advisories, weekly scientific reports, updates to websites and social media posts, according to nearly a dozen current and former officials and other people familiar with the matter.
The instructions were delivered Tuesday to staff at agencies inside the Department of Health and Human Services, including officials at the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and National Institutes of Health, one day after the new administration took office, according to the people with knowledge, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations. Some people familiar with the matter acknowledged that they expected some review during a presidential transition but said they were confused by the pauses scope and indeterminate length.
The health agencies are charged with making decisions that touch the lives of every American and are the source of crucial information to health-care providers and organizations across the country.
The pause on communications includes scientific reports issued by the CDC, known as the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR); advisories sent out to clinicians on CDCs health alert network about public health incidents; data updates to the CDC website; and public health data releases from the National Center for Health Statistics, which tracks myriad health trends, including drug overdose deaths."...(more)

Unfortunately, he "learned a lesson" from COVID...I know, like he could learn anything, right? well somehow the plan stuck in his mind.
So just be aware, we're on our own for the Bid Flu thing...unless these scientists find a way to get the word out ....

(12,424 posts)just blatantly ignores the law and refuses to enforce it that will get attention they don't want.
While I agree that could just slow walk, they can't just ignore it. The initial round of cabinet people TSF had several bad apples like Ryan Zinke who were, eventually, fired for their corruption.
I agree, it's a shit show but everything has its limits of what will be tolerated.
Think. Again.

(11,005 posts)Whether we are or not.
Do whatever you have to do to keep yourselves healthy. Masks. Wash hands, hand sanitizer. If you can, avoid large crowds. If you can, grow as much of your own food as possible. Even a small amount will help. Find neighbors and family who think the same way, and share.
It's not a fun way to live, but staying healthy is one of the things we need to do to be able to fight the fight.
And get any information you can, from Canada and the UK. Possibly even Mexico.

(1,237 posts)Trump almost endangered my health in the first term
He tried to repeal ACA in 2017 but he failed.
Hope the majority in Congress is not large enough for him to try it again.
In 1990, I was diagnosed with lymphoma.
It returned in 2019; I went through 4 different treatments over 2 years; all failed.
ACA provides me protection against lifetime limits.
Every time, lymphoma returns it gets more aggressive and more resistant to prior treatments.
This time, when it returned it was near my spinal column.
Between the third and fourth failed treatments, my mobility had declined that I needed the use of a walker.
The fifth treatment was a success and I was able to achieve my third remission.
I was able to ditch the walker.
If not for this fifth treatment, paralysis was a strong possibility.
I am currently undergoing maintenance treatments that my insurance pays for in part; they cost $1 million/year.
If he tries to repeal ACA again; these treatments may stop and my lymphoma could return.
