(34,997 posts)And, widespread eating disorders in females.
Big babies become big adults, usually. There was a time that women died in childbirth if they had a fetus that was too big to pass through the opening in their pelvic bones. And, so did their big baby. Now they can remove the big baby surgically, so most of them are surviving, as they would have a century ago.
Also, kids grow when they eat more/better. Our mass food production has improved the ability for people to consume the calories needed for growth over the past century. Their growth isn't stunted by malnourishment. But, unfortunately for females, there has always been the whole "You must be thin to remain attractive" shit. Hence, the prevalence of eating disorders among females. The whole sexual attraction thing goes both ways...

(82,305 posts)While men are getting bigger, women are remaining smaller. Or trying to look smaller.
While women are sexually attracted to large males, men are attracted to smaller females.
Prior to modern medicine this would have resulted in higher maternal mortality for the
reasons you cite.
So larger babies survive. But female babies grow up larger, which is not the desired
male sex object, so women have to diet and get plastic surgery to fit the ideal.

(24,434 posts)I live in a part of my state with a lot of tall dutch people. In my early 50s now and just a shade under 6 feet tall, I notice that if I end up at a bar with a bunch of early 20s at it, I feel short as hell. Like is everyone 6-2+ now?
The dating websites gather data on height, and a large % of women will not even look at a profile unless the height is 6 feet or over.
