Donald Trump's pardons are a dangerous gamble. If any one of these criminals commits any crime, Trump will be held accountable. But even worse, if one of them is involved in political violence that results in serious injury or death to an opponent it will prove disastrous for him.

(25,132 posts)Trump seems immune from everything.
Look at his awful record then accept he was reelected by tens of millions of Americans.
Trump will never be held to account.

(3,212 posts)is that a 5% to 10% movement in approval shifts public opinion dramatically. An approval rating of 39% is quite a bit different that 47%.
Granted, nobody is going to change the minds of the 33% MAGA cultists, but there is soft support on both sides of that 45% mark.

(25,132 posts)The approval/disapproval numbers are irrelevant.
Trump and MAGA run our government and Trump is beyond the reach of the law. He doesnt care about the Constitution. He violates laws like he lies which is every day. Who is going to stop him?
Frankly, Im very discouraged and dispirited. Not because of Trump, although he makes me sick to my stomach, but because so many Americans support him. We live a a country half-full of hateful stupid people.
For my whole life, Ive believed in our country. Through the Cold War, Watergate, Vietnam Nam and more, Ive always felt that our country would right itself. I no longer believe that and it feels like we are watching the collapse of a hundreds of years experiment.
Its not just Trump.

(3,212 posts)LBJ went from a real mandate in 1964 to being so unpopular he dropped out 4 years later.
I've seen Nixon win an election by 20 points and carry 49 states in 1972, only to leave in disgrace with the lowest approval ratings in 25 years prior after just 2 years. I saw Geroge H.W. Bush win an overwhelming mandate in 1988 and have an approval rating in the 80% range, only to get smoked by Bill Clinton in 1992.
I'm only talking about 5% to 10%, with a party with just a 2-vote margin in the House. There's a long way to go and Trump is an erratic fool. I'll admit, this will have to take an unforced, substantial error on his part, but I think that is inevitable.

(5,455 posts)Lawrence ODonnells show that only 211 J6 prisoners were actually released. All the others had served their sentence but were still pardoned so theyre able to own a gun.
Think. Again.
(22,456 posts)....trump would be responsible, yes, but he would not be held accountable any more than he was held accountable the first time.
