Bought store brand OJ today - 5.00 for a size that was 2.98 a few weeks ago.
So much of the American public is so easily bamboozled

(8,878 posts)But the magas were too busy 'owning the libs' to notice the price on almost every item in the grocery store was going up every week.
Some food inflation IS justified, and sadly conditions are such that there will be more of that. But the inflation in Biden's term got outrageous because of corporate mergers creating monopolies and corporate greed made them create conditions where the DEMs would not win so those same corporations could make even more obscene profits while working people suffer.
Or, as my wise neighbor said: Damn! There are too many stupid people in this country!

(44 posts)For example, 1/2 gal of OJ here has gone from 3.00 to 4.49 - but this also corresponded with news that largest grower of oranges in Florida was throwing in the towel due to climate change, hurricanes, greening disease, and insect pests.
The eggs that everyone bitches about are similar. Six months ago you could find the local house brand of eggs for 2.99 (or less when on sale). Then bird flu hit local chicken flocks (and they then had to all be slaughtered) and price went to 4.99-5.99 immediately. Then with new year CO state law mandating that the only eggs that can be sold have to be from cage-free hens went into effect - and eggs almost disappeared from shelves for a week until a new source complying with new law could be found. Now eggs are in the 7.99 a dozen price range.

(296 posts)I figure i spend 10% of my income on groceries every day. And i have to go get them. Rich people just get it set in front of them.

(9,996 posts)Excluding items for which there is an outside environmental cause such as eggs and orange juice, when price have gone up on products recently, they're never raised by 3%, 5% or even 10% at a time. They seem to always go up by 25% or more. There is no justification for such high increases on most products. One of the products I buy frequently went form $2.29 immediately to $3.99. Another, went up twice but the ultimate increase was from $4.99 to $8.69. price increases in and of themselves don't bother me too much - I know they have to happen to keep up with costs. It's the fact that they know they can get away with outrageously high increases all at once and there's nothing we can do about it.

(38,728 posts)The price of OJ went up 67%, therefore Americans are bamboozled into _?

(38,728 posts)and MFer was only installed 2 days ago, doesn't that mean the OJ price increase is Biden's fault, too?

(7,847 posts)Mostly hit up the Publix BOGO/2 FOR sales, they repeat items every month or so. Like Simply Orange Juice will be two bottles for $5, Ill get six at a time and freeze them. Theyll have Arnold and Pettridge Farm bread buy one get one free, bread freezes well also. I also bought seven 8 pound semi-boneless hams after Christmas for $1.29 a pound, that will last me all year. I have a couple of freezers so plenty of space.
The only things never on sale are Eggs and regular milk. Theyll have decent sales on the organic milk sometimes though.

(7,847 posts)Publix is expensive at regular prices but the BOGO and 2 FOR sales are generally good deals and work out cheaper than Walmart here.
