Who else is trying to tune the news out?

Last edited Fri Jan 24, 2025, 10:27 AM - Edit history (1)

The years 2017-2021 felt like forever, felt like an eternity. But I also realized it was torture following along with literally every single thing and letting it get to me.

I can either drive myself crazy over all his nonsense, and I’ve seen it some on BlueSky and my MSM homepage - legalized discrimination, executive order madness, inviting traitors to the Capitol, maybe to the White House, pardoning people who don’t deserve it, renaming Denali, won’t end Ukraine War, doesn’t care about the economy, the conflict with the Bishop, etc. As rotten to the core as it is, I’m just trying to focus on myself, which is what my therapist told me I should do.

I can either doomscroll and let this eat away at me, or I can get on with my life and vote blue for a 2026 midterm win. Like I said, I’m pretending, for my own sanity, President Biden is still in office.

The felon is not beating me. He’s not going to ruin my life and drag me down, and I hope he doesn’t do the same to any of you.

The realist in me says this nightmare is just beginning, but the optimist says a new day is another day closer to this nightmare ending.

Plus minor doses of npr while it still exists. Caught a few mins of Rachael, but it's too much.

I do get the Google news feed in my phone, knowing it is based on an algorithm, but I do scan it.

In finding ways to fight this fascist administration. The tools at my disposal appear pretty weak and consist mainly of complaining to my representatives, who already know what the deal is.

I stopped watching most corporate media a while back. But it is useful to get current events in a condensed form each day.

Trump's second term and ascendancy to Fascist power was totally predictable. We know that Project 2025 is the guidebook. Nothing is really surprising at this point, the cast was set for the USA way back at our founding. It doesn't take a genius to see that iur government was structured from day 1 to permit a determined extremist minority to establish power over the majority.

Electoral college + the Senate + gerrymandering of Congressional districts guarantees the tyranny of the minority.

I tuned out for 2 months post election and it was blissful.

I can't expose myself to the day day here on DU.

But I'm realizing I need to stay somewhat tuned in, perhaps eventually, for my own safety.

Probably a once a week check in at DU. Any other MSM source is just gross in how it dramatizes, but sugarcoats everything.

But after the NFL playoffs on Sunday, no more YouTube TV (and its $86/mo fees) so, I will listen free to BBC and a few MSNBC shows on TuneIN radio... (Yeah the repetitive commercials suck, but I tune OUT that part of TuneIN... )

Off topic, but the downside of turning off my access to local network channels and the rest from YouTube TV, is that I am in a terrain- and distance-impacted area that makes even Denver network channels hard to consistently pick up via a good indoor OTA antenna, but, so be it. I DO wish there were streaming services dedicated to providing access to all the local networks in the area that would have been free to all via analog years ago but are poorly transmitted via OTA. I'd pay a little each month for THAT. OR, TuneIn could add stations dedicated to network broadcasting. Half the time, I'd be content to simply listen to TV rather than watch, and again, that used to be possible via analog before TV signals were all digitized. Oh, well. That's my venting for the morning.

Policitial junkie since my teens.
Hard not to pay attention.
Strategy going forward.

Read NYT than the Guardian in the morning.
Listen to local community radio KSER 90.7. No news program.
Stop listening to Thomm Hartmann.
Check DU often.

Read The Guardian in evening for update on the days events.

No tv
No debating maga morons

Still lay awake at night worrying,
Ask myself in the morning,

1 Did TSF stroke out overnight?
2 What did he do last night that is a cause for concern.

I think of Stuart’s Scott’s ESPY’s speech - you beat cancer by living well.

Well, at the moment, for now, you hear the felon by not letting him or his cult ruin your life. Nobody can own the Libs if you don’t play their game. Refuse to play their game, not out of fear for them, but out of respect for yourself.

Right now, I encourage you to choose yourself. If you dwell on all the destruction (which we one day will clean up), then you’re not choosing yourself, you’re choosing the felon. Beat him by tuning him out.

Or I think of 42, which saw Chadwick Boseman portray Jackie Robinson, who asked Branch Rickey if he wanted someone who didn’t have the guts to fight back, to which Rickey replied he looked for someone to have the guts to not fight back.

We’ll pick things up and make our voices heard when we win the 2026 midterms. For now, there is no us without you, and if you ignore the felon’s distractions and create your own, you win.

The CNN boss told his staff to 'go easy on Trump' and 'not re-litigate the past'. This right before he began gutting actual reporting. We already know about the owners of WAPO and LA Times sabotaging their editorial staff. The oligarchy cannot allow the truth to be heard or seen. The sheep might get feisty. Can't have that!

He's literally dismantling our government, one agency at a time.

Until there's a pause after the shock and awe stage, I'll probably stay tuned. But I admire people who are able to shut it all out. One of my sisters and her husband did it long ago, and I truly think they did the right thing for them.
