alternative to coffee if cofee prices go way up

If coffee prices go up there are alternatives here is one that came from my Grandma I am not sure where she got the recipe. But she helped rmake its come back in the area she lived in the 70's when coffee prices skyrocketed then.
It is not simple, I have not made it my self but I can remember my mom making it in the 70's. ( I did remove my Grandma's name for privacy)

I did some internet searching and it is apparently also caffeine free

Barley Coffee     (Grandma ’s recipe)

Use whole kernel barley, not cracked, rolled or pearl.
DO NOT USE SEED BARLEY, IT MAY BE POISONED!
You should be able to obtain this at any feed store.
Pick over, removing any foreign matter, wash and drain, then put in a glass or plastic pan and cover with warm water, then let it stand in a warm place to sprout.  (if you start with about 1 and one-half pound it will work best until you get the hang of it).
It will take about 3 days to sprout, not all will sprout but most show from 1/16 to 1/8 inch long.
Now drain and wash, then drain again.
Using a flat pan, such as a jelly roll pan, cover it with foil and put in the barley about ¼ to ½ inch deep.  Place in the oven set at 400 degrees.  It will take about one hour and fifteen minutes to roast, you should stir each 15 minutes to start as it gets to show color of golden after maybe close to one hour, you must stir it each 3 to 4 minutes and not let it burn it will burn fast.  You want it to get dark brown to look like coffee beans or ripe apple seeds.  Grind in a coffee mill or a blender can be used if care is used not to get it too fine (rather coarse is best).
Use the same amount as coffee in a percolator or old fashioned pot.  The drips such as Mr. Coffee, do not make it as good.

Unless TSF thinks he can impose tariffs to Blue States on products grown and made in Red States.

Basically Americans ( well going to be)
Dumped the tea in the harbor because of taxes

They Started drinking coffee

Could see it now
2024 Americans change to tea because of Tarifs ( kinda a tax)

Could it be History in reverse ? 😊

most popular commercial tea can easily be grown in the U.S. and it is grown in some areas... not caught on as a large commercial crop though... and lots of herbal teas are grown here

Colombia is taking the deportees. They objected to the logistics not the return.
So, it's not likely these stupid tariffs will happen.

Or prices. Oils go up for other reasons.
Or it could just be another alternative.😊

But, I read later that Colombia didn't actually refuse to take them.
They resisted the use of US military aircraft.
Apparently, Colombian planes will be used.
So, the threat was misplaced because Colombia didn't say they would not take their citizens back.
But, he blistered about retaliatory tariffs without knowing all the circumstances.

I don't believe that people worried about higher coffee prices are going to be switching to paying that as alternative.

The coffee I buy goes for about .35 an ounce as comparison.

So if a 50% tariff were to be passed directly to me, it would be like .52 an ounce.....still almost 3x lower than the Kona.

There's a company called Ito En I used to order from. The tea is outstanding but because of the weight of 12 liters of tea the shipping cost is OUTRAGEOUS.

since the old days of No Doz. I sometimes use a capsule that has 100 mg of caffeine and 100 mg of L-Theanine, which results in a calm but focused state that doesn't have the jittery edge caffeine sometimes induces. And there are other combos you can make with caffeine too to direct its effects.

The downside is there are so many antioxidants in coffee itself.
