They can't force you to spend money. And they can't stop you from saving money. They expect us to keep spending like everything is just peachy. Don't hand them your money, or a healthy economy. The way to hurt the mobs is to mess with their money supply.
We're going to feel the pain anyway, might has well try and give them some in return.
Spending boycotts are safer than street protest, and can be done at home, they can't arrest, take your picture or shoot you. This could be a protest they can't shut down.
As an example. If one million Dems & Libs cut $25.00 a week from their spending (a week of Starbucks) that's $25 million a week, $100 million a month and one billion two hundred million in a year not going into the fascist economy. The more people that participate the larger the dent in the money supply.
Instead of spending $25.00, put it in a drawer and save it and let it build for emergency cash. think of it as paying yourself not to spend and paying yourself to resist fascism. ($25.00 a week)(52 weeks)=$1,300.00. That's $1,300 that doesn't have to go on a credit card.
Even cutting one dollar a day, $7.00 a week is resistance and $7.00 they don't get.
Make the MAGA voters shoulder the burden of floating the economy.
If the repugs can have success with the Bud Light boycott, we can be successful also.
I challenge all DUer's to join in and spread the word.
Thank you.
Think. Again.

Mom & Pops love cash. Paying cash screws the banks out of a 3% fee from the retailer. And it messes with their consumer tracking. They can't track cash.
Be well.

(329 posts)is to give the money you are saving to local food banks, LGBtQ, refugee, immigration organizations, ACLU, etc. With the cost of everything going up, they will welcome the additional funds no matter how small. Buy a can of some kind of food on sale and put in a local collection site...

(3,944 posts)Most people don't have any extra money. Food, housing, medicine, clothing are taking all of many people's incomes.
Keeping money circulating is a good thing, not a bad thing. Spend it more wisely, yes. Be less wasteful, yes.
I don't mean to knock you down, just adding another dimension to how we look at this.

(6,721 posts)Everyone can find a creative or more traditional way to resistance. The important thing is to be consistent.
Resistance takes sacrifice and and commitment. The question remains, will we allow ourselves to be inconvenienced enough to save our freedoms or not?

(553 posts)I got off Facebook last week, was never on Shitter or Tic-Toc and I am not going back....
This is my way of not helping the rich guys anymore...
I only shop at places that respect their customers and not bend down to intimidation as we are seeing these last few weeks... at least that non shopping list has slowed down, but there are quite a few of them I have stopped going to... Target is one of them... Hobbly Lobby is another...

(22,612 posts)Being retired and on fixed incomes, my husband and I are among those of whom you speak. The few small pleasures we manage to afford for ourselves mean a lot to us, and cutting back on those would be like cutting off our noses to spite our own faces.

(79 posts)at least spend on "blue" /progressive companies as much as possible, as per the app GOODS UNITE US.
But for those of us who can cut down, I'm 100% in for cutting spending and spending as much as possible when I do spend on progressive companies
Keep in mind that many, many people just don't have that many options.

(24,623 posts)When people refuse to pay exorbitant prices, the prices will come down. They jacked up the price of OJ, I stopped buying it. Jacked up the price of eggs, stop buying them. Any product you see where they upped the price 40% overnight. Don't buy it unless you absolutely need it.

(3,436 posts)Years ago, some pundit said that if we wanted to bring the oil industry to heel (this is where I don't know if the numbers are any good), just don't pay your credit card bill for 3 months. It wouldn't impact your credit too badly, it was easily repairable, but it would disrupt their cash flow so badly, they'd have to quit fucking with prices.
So totally agree...what's left of the middle class holds the purse strings in this country. When my husband passed, my income went down the tubes for a while because I lost his entire SSDI for almost 2 years, due to my personal income. For the next couple of years, if I couldn't live in it, put it in my gas tank, eat it, or feed it to my cats & dogs, I didn't spend money on it. There was no disposible income. Mortgage, food, gas, & pets...that was it. Was it fun? Hell, no. But it was necessary. So is this. Cut back on your spending. Hard. Start throwing your change in a jar at the end of each day. Do you really need that Starbuck's? A few months ago, I started taking the singles out of my wallet on Friday afternoon when I got home from work, and put them in a drawer. I'm up to about $300. The little things help.
If the only things these bastards understand is money, let's show them who really controls it.

(8,204 posts)My IRA is heavily invested in the US economy & I need it to be able to retire someday. I'm getting old & if our economy tanks now & I can't find good investment opportunities (yes, I'm always looking) I might never be able to retire & keep a roof over my head. I'm afraid Trump will crash our economy all by himself, I'm not going to help him do it & then end up having to work until the day I drop dead.
If folks are spending money on unnecessary things & want to do this, they certainly can, especially if they're giving money to Trump-supporting businesses. I totally support boycotting businesses that support a right-wing agenda, I've been doing that for decades, but punishing all businesses, as this seems to imply? Sorry, but no.

(23,185 posts)I got snowed in. I'm avoiding online shopping. I got my car out today, and have almost everything in my stockpile. I need to get a few things at one more store. After that, it will be groceries, nothing else.
I have a vintage booth. I'm planning to close it in March, a better chance for dry weather. My main reason for closing is to avoid being a plus for this regime. Like you said, every dollar.

(18,690 posts)one to have food delivered, and the second was more debatable. When I thought about bird flu I decided to order canned chicken from a sustainable food company--that is mostly for my dog but I'll eat some of it too.
My definition of disposable income deliberately excluded food and clothing, so these were technically not life or death purchases did not meet my definition of truly disposable income. The best thing is that it's almost unheard of for me to go eight days without an Amazon purchase, and I've managed that.
(After a great deal of soul searching I concluded that although I'd LOVE to cut my Amazon Prime subscription and send Bezos a big Fuck You letter, I am not able to do that at this time--Sorry. I do feel terrible about it. But the next best thing is to use it only when necessary.)
