This was only one of several ICE raids over the weekend. Others took place in Chicago, Boston, Austin, and L.A. Fox News reporters were invited to embed with the agents in Boston and Chicago, capturing the raids on video.

This stunt suggests the performative aspect of these Gestapo-style raids, as red meat for Trumps base. Trump has directed that ICE increase its raids and summary deportations, from a few hundred per day to at least 1,200 to 1,500.

What remains to be seen is how these raids will play with normal Americans. Early polls show that respondents narrowly favor the deportation of migrants who are in the U.S. illegally. But that support falls off sharply when the specifics turn brutal.

Since I now longer am bled dry by the subscriptions to the NYT and WaPo.

(4,154 posts)Besides the inhumanity, who do they think picks the crops and many other jobs citizens don't want to do? Do they think this will have no repercussions on them? The price of meat, fruit, dairy....Do they think deportation is free? Do they think this will help the economy?

(24,521 posts)I don't understand how people let themselves get caught up in that mindless trap but once they're in, it's hard to reason with them.
(Perhaps they feel exactly the same way about me...)

(344 posts)the rapid othering of Guatemalans. The first deportation flights were to Guatemala. The Guatemalan community has been part of our country for many years. Our favorite fast food place is Pollo Campero from Guatemala, which is very popular in Central America. Now its become a war on Chapines.
