Trump fires Air Safety Advisory Committee

https://apnews.com/article/coast-guard-homeland-security-priorities-committees-trump-tsa-d3e4398c8871ada8d0590859442e092c

"...The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Before Tuesday, the group included representatives of all the key groups in the industry — including the airlines and major unions — as well as members of a group associated with the victims of the PanAm 103 bombing. The vast majority of the group’s recommendations were adopted over the years...."

If I haven't been burglarized since I got an alarm system I guess I could get rid of the alarm system.
My house hasn't caught on fire so I guess I'll get rid of my smoke detectors.

President Donald Trump moved quickly to remake the Department of Homeland Security Tuesday, firing the heads of the Transportation Security Administration and Coast Guard before their terms are up and eliminated all the members of a key aviation security advisory group.

Trump’s immigration policy changes drew the most attention at DHS, but he is also making changes at the rest of the massive agency.

Members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee received a memo Tuesday saying that the department is eliminating the membership of all advisory committees as part of a “commitment to eliminating the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security.”

The aviation security committee, which was mandated by Congress after the 1988 PanAm 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, will technically continue to exist but it won’t have any members to carry out the work of examining safety issues at airlines and airports. Before Tuesday, the group included representatives of all the key groups in the industry — including the airlines and major unions — as well as members of a group associated with the victims of the PanAm 103 bombing. The vast majority of the group’s recommendations were adopted over the years.

This is another blatant falsehood. The NTBS website shows numerous active avaition investigations, not all are crashes, but there are actual crashes on the list.

Of course there were GA and other incidents, always have been, although GA is also lot safer now than it used to be. When I was working as a flight instructor in the '90s I knew two other instructors who were killed in small aircraft accidents. One was a midair collision on approach to the airport I worked at and the other was loss of control during a single-engine demo in a Beech Duchess. These accidents get very little press, even locally, but they're shocking as hell when you know someone involved.

But that would also be incorrect, the 737 Max had 2 crashes in 2018 - 2024? that killed over people total

That is exactly my point, people use vague wording so a person assumes it makes sense. Then the reporter or whoever it is holding the microphone does not ask for a clarification. Without oversight those faulty 737s would be put in service in the US and the accidents would be blamed on DEI hires or some other nonsense.

And I always analyze safest flights.

I don't often fly in or out of LAX, JFK, DCA, ORD or MIA

Most of my flights originated in Burbank or PHX, I tried to pick mid day flights, watched what equipment was used... typical stuff engineers obsess over.

If accuracy is important, then we should use our words accurately.

From the link you gave:

The Federal Aviation Administration’s leader stepped down on Jan. 20, months after Elon Musk demanded that he quit.
