If I cancel my WP subscription and donate instead to apnews.com ... will their website continue to spam me with requests for donations? Will I have an account or other way to log-in so that they'll know it's a donor viewing the website?
Will donating to apnews.com make my visits to their site easier to navigate without having to close popup/overlays, etc from any computer I use? Or will it improve my online experience only from the computer used to make the donation... but other devices remain unknown to them... and the solicitations will continue?
Anyone have any experience on this?

(6,670 posts)* I have a humble recurring donation for WAMU and another for MPT --- both of which are valuable, interesting and informative (and entertaining).
>> 1. Donate to freespeechtv.org
Also, I do not donate to "organizations" with non-existent and non-working website domains.

(6,670 posts)But I do subscribe to their newsletters too for topics that interest me. Lately, every time one shows up in email, it's just a reminder of how angry and disappointed I am in their editorial decisions.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but our household is not yet ready to cancel our Washington Post subscription. I understand and am sympathetic to all the reasons people have chosen to cancel, and we are watching the Post closely ourselves for all the reasons people have chosen to cancel over the past few months, but they are still doing some important and informative journalism at a critical time. And as flawed as the Post is right now under Bezos' ownership, MAGA world would be ecstatic if the Washington Post went out of business.
Today's front page, off the top of my head, has the story about Musk's allies (are any of them even government employees? have any of them undergone any kind of background check?) trying to get access to the Treasury Department's payment systems, and there is another story about Tulsi Gabbard stating, under oath this week, that she had not been aware until it was brought up the day of her hearing that a cleric she visited with in Syria had threatened to unleash suicide bombers against the U.S. But records from 2017 show she was aware of it and her office was trying to minimize any negative publicity about it. Also an important story about the air traffic control tower at Reagan International Airport being understaffed, and several other important stories.
Our household is hoping Bezos might sell to a buyers group that is more committed than he is to an independent press, and there are some efforts being made to put together a buyers group, so for now we are hanging in there on our subscription. (But we, too, are supporting other outlets like The Guardian, etc.)
Just some thoughts - we respect that others have made different choices.

Yes, selling to a group that its more committed to an independent press is worth hoping for. Maybe a lack of subscribers will lower the overall value of the WP and bring the price down to something that's affordable.
Someone else here also mentioned the Guardian. I'll check them out as well. Thanks.
